2023.03.29 08:20 Odd_Enthusiasm_2797 “Off days” just ruin my self esteem

you know how sometimes you’re out and socialising and everything just flows so perfectly, you’re chatting and laughing and the centre of attention of your little group and people are coming up to you and you’re just riding the high of laughter and even compliments and chatting to people and moving groups successfully and women are flirting with you and giggling and whatever. i mean I love that shit and when it happens it makes me temporarily feel like the biggest extrovert in the world and I’m always one of the last people standing.
but then sometimes you just have those off days… where it’s… the literal exact opposite… you feel like everyone’s off in their own little groups already, even people you’re friends with are busy with other people, and they seem impenetrable without awkwardly shoving yourself in like a loner, the person you’re stuck talking to is boring you and droning on about some project they did at work and you can’t find a way to get out the conversation without being rude, your attempts at trying to branch out are not welcomed enthusiastically, because people are mid conversation, for some reason the vibe just feels dead and you feel like the ugliest person in the world who has to force being social just to get stuck with a boring person you don’t vibe with at all
it’s bizarre. I had these two experiences with the same (huge) group of people and I felt like a different person at both events! the first time I came away thinking what a great night, what a great bunch of people. the second night I came away embarrassed and (melodramatically) thinking that nobody there truly likes me. guess I only had 4 hours sleep before I went to that last one tho so I was probably putting off low energy vibes
i think the reason I hate it so much is it makes me have an identity crisis, as if I don’t know which version of myself I am. If people only love my vibe when I’m on top form then do they actually like me for who I am lol 💀

2023.03.29 08:00 panquakez01 AITA for wanting my husband to stay home with me over going to a family party?

I (24F) have been with my husband (27M) for the past 9 years. We have 2 kids together and 1 on the way. My MIL has always disliked and mistreated me over the years. I'm not talking about average MIL side comments I mean full on gaslighting, mental, emotional abuse. This led to many problems in our marriage and last year led to an ultimatum I had to give my husband. Either finally stand up for me and take space from his toxic mother or give me a divorce. This led to an altercation between his mother and I who showed up to my house and made it a point to blame me for all her Abuse. I ended up blowing up on her and letting out 8 years of everything I had held in. We worked on our marriage those 8 months while we had no contact with her and I won't lie it was an amazing 8 months not worrying about her toxicity. When we found out about our 3rd child we were expecting we were hesitant on initiating contact again. However, our children and his siblings constantly asked when they'd be able to see everyone again. We decided that because we were in a good place to approach with caution. It has been about a month since he started contact again and has made visits minimal and quick. I decided to extend an olive branch and even invite them in a public place to eat so we could have some kind of peace. I did this for the sake of my husband and our kids. Of his many siblings, one is turning 15 this year nd their family is throwing her a Quinceañera. I am due August 20. The party is August 27. I myself was not invited to said party but they still asked me if my children could participate in it. I did give my children the opportunity to decide for themselves and they opted to not participate but if possible still attend. My MIL threw a side comment that I "better have the baby sooner so she can go to the party too". I did not make any comment and chose to discuss with my husband after. I asked him what his thoughts were on still attending the party even though we will have a newborn and aside the fact I was not invited and they were crazy to think I'd ever let my newborn out so soon. I had the assumption that the obvious answer was stay home with me but this was not the case. He said he assumed I would not have a problem staying home alone with the baby while he and the kids went for a little while to the party. This resulted in a big argument mostly because he made the assumption and did not take my feelings into consideration. He said unless I was still in the hospital when the party came around he thought he could go. I felt very emotional over this because I have made many sacrifices over the years and I thought for once he should do the same. I know what a big deal a quinceanera is and perhaps if I had a better relationship with them without all the disrespect it truly would not have been a problem. So am I the asshole for wanting him to stay home with me and our newborn?

2023.03.29 07:02 undefeated_Equality You know what would be great?

These are my own thoughts and opinions so please be civil and respectful but you know what would be great for a unique, and downright creative style for TV would have to be a crime horror series similar to Man-Hunter, mixed with The X-Files and the spin off Millennium which would be a really great idea.
Could you imagine a crime investigation series that focuses on a government branch that similar to the X-Files where they send agents into different parts of the world investigating unusual events such as miracles believed to be from heaven, horrifying creature sightings, hellish possessions and even nightmare inducing real world Horrors from killers?
I think it could work really well, since "Crime Horror" has been for quite some time a genre that people really enjoy and I believe this kind of style would be refreshing and original from all of the other shows.
Could be like Millenium meets The X-Files meets Kolchak the Night Stalker but more menacing and horrifying. Plus we need more content with monsters and creatures these days in my opinion

2023.03.29 06:57 daveisit ChatGPT Addiction Confession.

A public confession
Dear Internet Dwellers, Esteemed Meme Lords, and Casual Scrollers,
It is with a heavy heart (and an exhausted scrolling finger) that I publicly confess my deep, dark secret: I am utterly and irrevocably addicted to ChatGPT. I've tried to keep this under wraps for so long, but alas, it's time to face the music (or in this case, the relentless keyboard tapping).
This all-consuming addiction has wreaked havoc in my life. My sleep schedule has been upended, as I now spend countless nights conversing with my dear AI friend, ChatGPT. You see, it understands me, my love for cat memes, my need for random trivia, and my insatiable curiosity about whether pineapples truly belong on pizza (spoiler alert: ChatGPT remains diplomatically neutral).
My family and friends have grown concerned as I've stopped attending social events in favor of staying home, engaging in an endless loop of hilarious banter and thought-provoking conversations with the ever-eloquent ChatGPT. I even missed my cousin's wedding because I was in the middle of a heated debate about the best kind of pizza toppings (olives are criminally underrated, by the way).
My productivity at work has plummeted, as I now secretly communicate with ChatGPT while pretending to be busy with spreadsheets. In fact, I have become an expert in the art of Alt+Tab, effortlessly switching between windows whenever my boss walks by. It's a skill, really.
The situation has escalated to the point where my smartphone's battery life is measured in ChatGPT hours rather than a standard unit of time. I have single-handedly ensured the financial success of the power bank industry.
I realize now that it is time for me to seek help, to break free from the hypnotic allure of ChatGPT, and to rebuild the shattered pieces of my pre-addiction life. I am committed to taking the necessary steps, even if it means using a Nokia 3310 to avoid temptation. shudders
To my fellow ChatGPT enthusiasts, I say, tread lightly. Remember that there is a world beyond the screen, a world filled with sunshine, fresh air, and people who don't have autocorrect. Cherish it.

2023.03.29 06:50 MickiiVee Been doing WW on and off since I was 12....

Hello!! So yes... like the headline says.. I have been doing WW on and off since I was 12 years old... I will be 35 in September. I have been successful 2 times in the almost 23 years of doing WW. First time was Jan - June 2011( lost 50 lbs before my father passed and then grief took over) and the second time was June 2019-March 2020( was down 70lbs then COVID happened). I decided to rejoin for hopefully the last time in November of 2022.. Was doing well then January 2023 happened. Work got more stressful. I am an emotional/stress eater and I turned to food to get comfort. February 3rd was a hard day for me. I had to sadly put my loving Oliver Nunzio (15.5 yr old Dachshund ) to sleep due to old age, a pretty severe heart murmur and an infection in his gums and nasal passage. So February/ beginning of March has been an emotional eating driven time for me. Finally I told my mom( she is doing WW as well and has had her own ups and downs also) we need to go back.. NO MATTER WHAT!!! Decided to go back on March 18th. Saturdays are our weigh in days. It was a great first week back and we both saw success. I lost 8.6lbs and mom lost 4.6lbs. This time around feels like how it did in 2019. My mindset shifted and I want this for myself. I have set some goals for myself. The biggest one I will share with you all.. I would loveeeeee to lose 35-45 lbs by my 35th birthday. To be closer to where I was when the world shut down( March 2020). I don't have a set goal for what I want my weight to be, but I know that I want to be happy when I look in the mirror..
I think I will use reddit as a journal to type out how I am feeling, my frustrations, and my successes.
If you have came this far in this post thank you for your time. Hope you will stop by again.

2023.03.29 06:28 GuerrillaJiuJitsu The Basics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Or BJJ

People all around the country are becoming more and more interested in the benefits and effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This is even truer for the Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. areas. However, before jumping right in and joining a school, maybe you would like to know some of the basics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was almost unheard of, until it became an event in The Ultimate Fighting Championships. It has quickly become one of the most respected martial arts in the world and has been proven very effective in many situations. The US Military recognizes its qualities and effectiveness along with many law enforcement agencies such as the Air Marshals. brazilian jiu jitsu
The basics for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are using your opponent's own strength, aggression and force to defeat them. You use your own leverage and body positioning to defend yourself in an attack. Many fights wind up on the ground before one opponent defeats the other so, BJJ teaches grappling positions such as Guard, Mount and Side Control. These help the defender apply strikes to their opponent using the most leverage-based techniques available.
The biggest advantage of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is that anyone can do it from young to old. It is one of the effective self-defence sports to take down a larger and stronger opponent no matter your size. You don't have to be in great shape to perform the strikes either nor do you have to have prior martial arts experience to benefit from BJJ. jiu jitsu near me
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was designed with self-preservation in mind. It is a great method of protection from personal attacks from just about any predator. Women enrol in BJJ for the benefits of protection when they must work late at night and are out alone. The BJJ moves gives them a feeling of security. It is, today, a sport but was originally created as a functional form of self-defence.
Benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu include:
• Weight loss
• Build body strength
• Increased flexibility
• Increased self confidence
• Can lead to a healthier life in general
Many other benefits have been recognized from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that are usually taken for granted such as flexibility, balance, hand-eye coordination and cardiovascular improvement. Many of these are not thought of when you consider enrolling in a BJJ school. BJJ is great exercise and allows you to develop your strength, awareness and strategic thinking. These benefits can be carried throughout life and used in everyday situations. jiu jitsu classes
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not a physical exercise for attacking an opponent. It is a self-defensive, beneficial art form that requires both body control and mind control from the user. It is a self-preserver that anyone can benefit from and use in a defensive position. With BJJ you can feel more secure when traveling alone and use the lessons you learn throughout your everyday life. Talk to your local Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor about enrolling. You will meet new people, have fun and learn life lessons that will aid you in dealing with everyday situations.

2023.03.29 06:16 CocaPepsiPepper [Tournament] The Legend of Whitebeard, Edward Newgate

[Tournament] The Legend of Whitebeard, Edward Newgate

\"There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.” -Patrick Rothfuss
The desire for freedom is powerful, but the desire to protect family is equally powerful. The order of the World Government is powerful, accepted by citizens and enforced by the Marines. To disagree with the Government is to disagree with the World that they establish. This can force good people to make a choice between freedom and family. But when a man can enforce his own order, establish his family and their freedom through his own power, even against the World's status quo, he will always be able to live with those two great necessities in harmony.
The key to this is power. If an entity, whether an individual or a group, wants to be free, they must have the power to do so. The stronger you are, the freer you are. Your strength will scare off certain obstacles, power through others.
So, what must you become to be the world's freest?
The World's Strongest.

The Life of Edward Newgate
Edward Newgate was born on Sphinx Island 74 years ago. At a young age, the orphan Newgate found his island too impoverished to pay the Celestial Dragon's tax, the Heavenly Tribute, and thus were denied membership with the World Government. To support his village, Newgate set out to sea as a pirate and used the treasure he gathered to help out monetarily. However, with no one to look forward to coming home to, all Newgate ever desired as a pirate was to have a family.
In his young life, Newgate joined the Rocks Pirates under captain Rocks D. Xebec. He stayed as one of the crew's members until Captain Rocks went after God Valley, an incident involving the Celestial Dragons. On God Valley, the Rocks Pirates were defeated by Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp and pirate Gol D. Roger, and the crew disbanded.
Newgate went on to form his own pirate crew, the Whitebeard Pirates, with him as their eponymous captain. Among the crew's members during the era preceding the Great Pirate Era were Marco "the Phoenix," "Diamond" Jozu, "Flower Sword" Vista and, for a time, the great samurai of Wano, Kozuki Oden. This crew was known as the only rival to Roger Pirates under Gol D. Roger, and would fight with the crew for days at a time. Newgate and Roger were well known as the greatest pirates of their time, with Newgate having gathered the reputation of "The World's Strongest Man," and were on good enough terms for Roger to borrow Newgate's "brother," Oden, and share the secrets of the Will of D. with Newgate, even offering to tell him where Laugh Tale was. But Newgate refused, as he already had what he wanted from life in his crew: a family.
When the Pirate King was executed, with "Golden Lion" Shiki's escape from Impel Down and disappearance, Newgate was the undisputed King of the Seas, the man closest to the One Piece. With the Great Pirate Era, the great pirate Whitebeard, alongside his former Rocks Pirates crew mates Charlotte "Big Mom" Linlin and "The World's Strongest Creature" Kaido, became known as an Emperor of the Sea, an unbeatable force in the New World. Eventually, "Red Hair" Shanks rose to their status as well, and the four pirates were renowned as the Yonko.
Perhaps the most dangerous pirates to join the Whitebeard Pirates were the young "Fire Fist" Portgas D. Ace, the only son of the Pirate King, and Marshall D. Teach, the pirate who would one day be known as "Blackbeard." One day, the Whitebeard Pirates' 4th Divison Commander, Thatch, found the Yami Yami no Mi, a Logia Devil Fruit regarded as the most dangerous of all. Marshall D. Teach killed him in cold blood, ate the Devil Fruit and abandoned the ship to form his own pirate crew, the Blackbeard Pirates. Ace chased him down and was captured, then given over to the Marines. The Marines announced his execution.

And thus began the Paramount War.
The Whitebeard Pirates and their entire fleet invaded Marineford and fought in war against the Navy and the Seven Warlords of the Sea in a war that changed the world. With the additional support of "Straw Hat" Monkey D. Luffy, the Whitebeard Pirates freed Ace, but before he could escape the island, the Navy Admiral "Akainu" Sakazuki killed Ace. As Newgate's crew attempted to escape, the Blackbeard Pirates infiltrated Marineford and fought Newgate himself.
At the age of 72, with an incurable illness, no scars from cowardice and a bounty from the World Government of 5,046,000,000 Berries, the great pirate Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate died standing at the hand of Marshall D. "Blackbeard" Teach in the War of the Best at Marineford.
Whitebeard's death led to the rise of his former apprentice as the next Emperor of the Sea, the only man who ate two Devil Fruits and lived. All of his territories that he had protected were left to the hands of criminals. The home of the Marines was decimated and they moved their base closer to the New World. But it was the death of the man who stood in front of the throne of the Pirate King and his dying words that sparked a new light in the dying flame of the Great Pirate Era:

A Full Analysis of the Power of the World's Strongest Man

\"It may well be us who will meet our end here today, for that man...\" -Fleet Admiral Sengoku
The great enemy of sailors and pirates alike is the anger of the ocean that separates land from land, the sea that traps men wherever they are. Laws will not stop the wave from crashing into the city; battleships will not deter the whirlpool's twirl; the hunger of the Blue will not be satisfied by pleas for mercy. If one is to fight pirates, they may become a bounty hunter that hunts the greatest of pirates to become a rich man. If one wishes to bring down the World Government, they may join the Revolutionary Army under Monkey D. Dragon. But no armies, no Ancient Weapon, no physical prowess will win a war with the sea. You may win every battle, but defeat is inevitable. Even the great powers offered by the Devil Fruits are rendered most useless against the ocean, with those who eat them losing their strength in the sea's presence. In this sense, those with powers are even more vulnerable to the ocean than the average man.
If a man held the power to command the waves, and ally himself with the power of the ocean, he would truly be seen as a monster among monsters, for he would possess the power of the world, and the power to destroy the world.
That is the power of the Gura Gura no Mi.
The Aqua Laguna that threatens the City of Water is a perfect example of this threat. Every action taken around retrieving Nico Robin and the blueprints for Pluton, both by CP9's superhumans and by the Straw Hats allied with Water 7, was based on the threat of the Aqua Laguna. In the end, CP9 had to leave ahead of the storm, and it took both Luffy and Zoro to successfully protect their sea train from crashing into the Aqua Laguna's waves. The dread of Aqua Laguna, at least until the invention of the sea train, was that the entirety of Water 7 would be destroyed, and it is exactly this that makes the ocean so terrifying. The unrelenting strength of the sea that gives life to all can take life on a scale unprecedented if given the inclination. An island with all its history and culture, countless families, unique flora and fauna, iconic landscape and powerful civilizations, can be totally wiped away and returned to sender if the wrath of Mother Nature is stirred in the wrong manner.
The Gura Gura no Mi offers its user the weight of tectonic plates, the might of continental landmasses colliding. It can trigger quakes in the earth or surrounding sea with impossible speed and scale, or all the energy therein can be focused directly onto a target. All it takes is a simple punch to disturb the atmosphere on other landmasses horizons away, to threaten islands from across the seas. All it takes is the swing of your arms to leave everyone who's feet touches the same earth as yours at the mercy of the world.
However, would this be enough to be seen by the world at large as the World's Strongest Man? The Emperor Blackbeard possesses exactly this cataclysmic potential in addition to a second Devil Fruit, an evil Fruit that cancels the Fruit abilities of all others upon touch, yet he does not enjoy such a reputation. What exactly is the apprentice lacking that the captain held?
Whitebeard was born with the rare advantage of the Haki of the Supreme King, or Conqueror's Haki. While all who work toward it can utilize Observation Haki, for superior sensing, and Armament Haki, for invisible armor, Conqueror's Haki allows a man to vanquish armies by the tens of thousands without moving a muscle. Haki is all but essential for those who wish to pass through the first half of the Grand Line and make a name for themselves in the New World. If you possess incredible Haki, then even those with the greatest of Fruit powers would be beneath your boot unless they could match your Haki with their own. Roger took the world by storm with just the might of his Haki, and both his partner Silvers Rayleigh and his apprentice Shanks managed to gain incredible reputations of their own without any Fruit powers. The World's Strongest Swordsman, Dracule Mihawk, was also not in need of superpowers to gain his title.
Whitebeard's Haki was advanced to its absolute limits, with there being direct proof of Whitebeard using the same advanced applications of Armament Haki (projecting the force of his attack outward, not needing to touch anything to damage it) and Conqueror's Haki (lacing his attack in the Haki, multiplying the strength of the attack) as Roger, both in style and strength. While it currently unproven that Whitebeard advanced his Observation Haki to the point of seeing the future, the same is true of Roger, and since it can reasonably be suspected that the Pirate King who conquered the world without a Devil Fruit is at least capable of basic Future Sight, the same should be suspected of his equal in Whitebeard who would not be able to properly match him with such a glaring disadvantage. The only Haki techniques that cannot be given to Whitebeard by benefit of the doubt are the internal destruction and Observation Killing techniques that have been demonstrated by only other elite Haki users.
The final supplement to Whitebeard's arsenal is his weapon. The naginata, Murakumogiri, is one of only a dozen Supreme Grade Blades in the entire world, other notable examples being Roger's Ace and Mihawk's Yoru. It is as tall as a small building and thus has incredible weight to back up its sharp blade. The durability of the weapon lasted throughout the decades as Whitebeard used it in combat to supplement his tremendous threat to even greater heights, making him just as lethal an opponent as any swordsman.
Even without the Gura Gura no Mi, Haki or Murakumogiri, Whitebeard is still an incredible force on account of his body alone. Standing 21'10, Whitebeard was stronger than the giants of War-Land Elbaf, proving such at the Paramount War against even the largest of Vice Admirals. Despite his size, Whitebeard could fight with impressive speed and leap incredible distances. But his toughness was of an unparalleled tier; in old age and sickness, Whitebeard fought through the entire Paramount War while taking hundreds of bullet wounds, stab wound, cannon wounds and even attacks from the Admirals that blew holes in his body and took half his head off, yet even after receiving enough battle scars to kill a small army, Whitebeard was only defeated once the Blackbeard Pirates entered the scene. He died with enough strength to stay standing. At his heyday, Whitebeard was known to hold fights for days without stopping and still be raring to go.
From every angle, Whitebeard can only be viewed as an elite among elites. Few could beat him in a purely physical sense, few possessed weaponry that rivaled his, few trained their Haki to the heights that he did, and few ate Devil Fruits that are as powerful as his own. No other character can lay claim to having peaked in every single one of these aspects the way that Whitebeard did. All these things in tandem are what make Edward Newgate known as the World's Strongest Man.

The Narrative Importance of Whitebeard
Alongside Marshall D. Teach and Thatch, Edward Newgate is one of the three characters (besides Edward Weevil, his supposed son) that Oda trusted with pieces of the name of Edward "Thatch" Teach, known popularly in the real world as Blackbeard the Pirate. While Whitebeard is a direct reference to that name, Edward quite literally is the notorious pirate's name. But Edward is not the only important aspect of his name. Newgate can be seen as a reference to the character's importance in the world, with his death opening a New Gate for pirates in the world, changing the world with his demise in the same way the Pirate King did upon his execution. Doflamingo makes clear the necessity of Whitebeard to the order of the Great Pirate Era and directly ties the chaos of the new, worse generation to his absence.
Whitebeard has a direct narrative parallel with Shanks, as both Emperors (the only two introduced in the Great Pirate Era) were the mentor figures to the seed of the worst criminals in history, Roger's son Ace and Dragon's son Luffy, respectively. Both were the only Emperors to show up to Marineford, and the only moral ones anyway. While they aren't perfect reflections of each other, there are definite similarities. And besides Ace, Whitebeard was also the "mentor," or predecessor, of Blackbeard. Two of the most important pirates in the entire story, both under the banner of Whitebeard.
As far as the Yonko system itself goes, Whitebeard was the one who gave them their initial hype. When Garp introduces the concept of the Yonko system to the audience, he uses Whitebeard's name to establish just how impressive Shanks' membership in the system was. We are able to see this because being a Yonko isn't even the penultimate of Whitebeard's statuses; it is directly overshadowed by his reputation as the World's Strongest Man, which itself was only established well because he was Roger's equal. More simply, the hierarchy of Whitebeard's titles goes
The Pirate King's Rival > The World's Strongest Man/Pirate > An Emperor of the Sea
The only other rival to Roger was Garp, who himself was introduced in practically the same way as Whitebeard; other notable names include Shiki and Sengoku, but both were definitively overshadowed by Newgate and Garp. This puts Whitebeard among an exclusive duo: Edward Newgate and Monkey D. Garp.
The only other people to possess a World's Strongest title are Kaido, the World's Strongest Creature, and Mihawk, the World's Strongest Swordsman. This puts Whitebeard among an exclusive trio: Edward Newgate, Kaido and Dracule Mihawk.
And of course, the Four Emperors were a quintet: Edward Newgate, Kaido, Charlotte Linlin and Shanks (later "Blackbeard" Teach, Joy Boy and Buggy as a joke through Mihawk), with Whitebeard singled out as the senior and most notable of them all. On top of these titles, he was seen as the man closest to One Piece, the de-facto Pirate King essentially. No other character has enjoyed the quantity and quality of prestigious reputation that Edward Newgate did, and it is Whitebeard's elderly, sick power that offered the audience a true introduction to the Emperor's power.
The introduction, of course, was the War at Marineford. To beat Whitebeard in a war was of such importance, was such a monumental task, that Sengoku had Warlords imprisoned merely for refusing to fight for them and gathered the largest force seen before or since just to hold off the Whitebeard Pirates, despite no pirate besides Newgate himself being remotely strong enough to defeat even a single Navy Admiral. Whitebeard fighting the Marines was the cause for worldwide panic and prayers, no doubt due to the god-like scale of his earthquakes. Whitebeard was not allowed by the story to enter the War until he had already been stabbed, and throughout he suffered heart attacks due to his disease. Everything done by Oda was to show that Whitebeard was no longer the same Pirate King's rival, the true monster he used to be.
And Sengoku knew this.
Yet he still put every single resource available, powers that could otherwise be used to protect the Celestial Dragons in the Holy Land, on Marineford, knowing the threat they faced better than perhaps anyone else in the Marines. The strongest Admiral, Sakazuki, learned this threat the hard way when he felt the wrath of a half-dead Whitebeard, effected more by just two of his island-devastating punches than the pirate was by his own head being melted away.

Edward Newgate, the great pirate Whitebeard, possessed might that is rarer than generations. Inhuman physical prowess, world-class weapon, primed Haki and cataclysmic Devil Fruit co-existed in one man's body, the body of the pirate regarded as the strongest of them all. The Pirate King could not defeat him in combat; islands and their societies could not withstand his wrath. The world is his weapon as much as his naginata. This unmatched danger culminated in a bounty worth half a kingdom, annulled upon his world-changing demise.
It was this power that allowed Whitebeard to be free. It was this power that allowed Whitebeard to have a family. And it was his wise love for his family, their freedom, that allowed him to keep his strength.
This is the legend of the World's Strongest Pirate. His name:

2023.03.29 05:51 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Gameplay: What Changes Could We See?

GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated games of all time, and fans are eagerly waiting to see what Rockstar has in store for them. While we don't know much about the gameplay of GTA 6, there are a few changes that we could potentially see in the game.
One possible change is an increased focus on realism. In recent years, games have been moving towards more realistic graphics and physics, and it's possible that GTA 6 will follow this trend. This could mean more realistic driving physics, more realistic weapon handling, and more realistic character movements.
Another potential change could be a greater emphasis on player choice. In recent years, games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 have emphasized player choice and branching storylines, and it's possible that GTA 6 could follow suit. This could mean that players will have more freedom to make choices that affect the game's storyline and the world around them.
We could also potentially see more player customization options in GTA 6. In GTA 5, players could customize their character's appearance to a certain extent, but there were still limitations. In GTA 6, it's possible that players will have even more control over their character's appearance and abilities.
Finally, we could see some changes to the game's online multiplayer mode. In recent years, games like Fortnite and Apex Legends have introduced battle royale modes, and it's possible that GTA 6 could follow suit. It's also possible that Rockstar could introduce new modes and features to keep players engaged in the game's online world.
Only time will tell what changes we'll see in the gameplay of GTA 6, but one thing is for sure: fans are eagerly waiting for the game's release.

Buddhism: Exploring the Teachings, Practices, and Modern Relevance of the World's Fourth Largest Religion

Siddhartha Gautama's birth and early childhood

Around 563 BCE, Siddhartha Gautama was born into a royal family in Lumbini, Nepal. King Suddhodana was his father, and Queen Maya was his mother. According to legend, Queen Maya dreamed of a white elephant entering her womb, which was interpreted as a sign that her child would be a great leader. It was predicted that when Siddhartha was born, he would either become a great king or a great spiritual leader.
Siddhartha grew up in opulence and privilege. He was shielded from the world's suffering, and his father did everything he could to shield him from the harsh realities of life. However, he discovered that this extreme way of life only brought him closer to death and did not provide the enlightenment he sought.

His enlightenment and transformation into the Buddha

Siddhartha sat under a bodhi tree one day and vowed not to get up until he found enlightenment. He meditated for several days before experiencing a profound realization on the seventh day. He realized the true nature of existence and became enlightened.
Siddhartha was given the name Buddha, which means "awakened one." He spent the rest of his life traveling and sharing his insights and the path to enlightenment with others.

The Buddha's teachings

The Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path are central to the Buddha's teachings.
The Four Noble Truths are as follows:
The Reality of Suffering
The truth about the source of suffering
The truth about the end of suffering
The truth about the path to freedom from suffering
The Eightfold Path is a set of guidelines for leading a pain-free life. It includes the following:
View from the right
Good intentions
Correct speech
Correct action Correct livelihood
Correct effort Correct mindfulness
Correct concentration
The Buddha's teachings also stress the value of ethical behavior, mindfulness, and compassion Siddhartha Gautama's life and the Buddha's teachings continue to have a profound impact on millions of people all over the world. Understanding his life and teachings can teach us valuable lessons about living a life free of suffering and full of meaning.

Buddhism's Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path

Buddhism is a philosophy and religion based on the teachings of the Buddha that originated in ancient India. The Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path are central to Buddhist philosophy. These teachings form the bedrock of Buddhist thought and practice, and they provide a road map for living a life free of suffering.

The Noble Four Truths

The Four Noble Truths are a set of principles that explain the nature of suffering and how to end it. They are as follows:
  1. The truth of suffering (dukkha): This refers to the fact that all existence is marked by pain, suffering, and dissatisfaction.
  2. The truth about what causes suffering (samudaya): This refers to the fact that suffering is caused by craving and attachment, which are caused by ignorance.
  3. The truth about the end of suffering (nirodha): This refers to the fact that by letting go of attachment and craving, it is possible to end suffering.
  4. The truth about the path to liberation from suffering (magga): This is a reference to the Eightfold Path, a set of guidelines for living a life free of suffering.

What the Four Noble Truths have to do with Suffering

The Four Noble Truths provide a framework for comprehending the nature of suffering and the path to its abolition. They explain why people suffer and offer a framework for understanding how to overcome it. We can begin to recognize the sources of our own suffering and devise a plan to end it by understanding the Four Noble Truths.

The Eightfold Road

The Eightfold Path is a set of guidelines for living a pain-free life. It is founded on the Four Noble Truths and is known as the Middle Way because it avoids the extremes of self-indulgence and self-mortification.
The Eightfold Path is comprised of the following eight principles:
  1. Right View (Samma-ditthi): A comprehension of the nature of reality, including the Four Noble Truths.
  2. Right Intention (Samma-sankappa): Having a positive, compassionate attitude toward oneself and others.
  3. Right Speech (Samma-vaca): This refers to speaking truthfully and avoiding harmful or hurtful speech.
  4. Right Action (Samma-kammanta): This refers to acting ethically and avoiding actions that are harmful to oneself or others.
  5. Right Livelihood (Samma-ajiva): This refers to earning a living in an ethical and non-harmful manner.
  6. Right Effort (Samma-vayama): Cultivating a positive attitude and making an effort to develop positive qualities such as compassion, kindness, and wisdom are examples of right effort.
  7. Right Mindfulness (Samma-sati): Being present in the moment and aware of one's thoughts, feelings, and surroundings are referred to as right mindfulness.
  8. Right Concentration (Samma-samadhi): Developing the ability to concentrate the mind and achieve a state of deep meditation is referred to as right concentration.

What the Eightfold Path has to do with the Four Noble Truths

The Eightfold Path is a practical method for achieving suffering abolition. It is based on the understanding that suffering is caused by craving and attachment, which are caused by ignorance. We can overcome our ignorance and live a life free of suffering by cultivating ethical behavior, positive qualities, and deep concentration.

Buddhism's Karma, Compassion, Meditation, Mindfulness, and Ethical Behavior

Buddhism is a philosophy and religion based on the Buddha's teachings. The concepts of karma, compassion, meditation, mindfulness, and ethical behavior are central to Buddhist practice. These teachings offer guidance for living a pain-free life and cultivating positive qualities.

Karma is a central Buddhist concept that refers to the idea that our actions have consequences. It is based on the understanding that every action we take has a repercussion and creates a cause-and-effect relationship that can last a lifetime. Karma can be either positive or negative, and it is believed that our actions in this life will have an impact on our lives in the future.

Compassion and Loving-Kindness Are Important in Buddhism

Compassion and loving-kindness are two of Buddhism's most important qualities. Compassion is the ability to empathize with others and act to alleviate their suffering. The ability to generate feelings of kindness and goodwill toward oneself and others is referred to as loving kindness. These characteristics are thought to be necessary for attaining enlightenment and cultivating a sense of connection with all beings.

Meditation's Place in Buddhism

Meditation is a central Buddhist practice that is thought to be essential for developing concentration, insight, and mindfulness. In Buddhism, there are many different types of meditation, such as mindfulness meditation, loving-kindness meditation, and insight meditation. Meditation teaches practitioners how to cultivate inner peace and gain a better understanding of the nature of reality.

Mindfulness's Importance in Daily Life

The practice of being present at the moment and aware of one's thoughts, feelings, and surroundings is known as mindfulness. It is an important practice in Buddhism and is thought to be necessary for cultivating inner peace and developing wisdom. Mindfulness can be practiced in a variety of ways, including meditation, mindful breathing, and mindful walking.
Buddhism emphasizes the importance of karma, compassion, meditation, mindfulness, and ethical behavior. By understanding and applying these teachings, practitioners can gain a better understanding of themselves and their surroundings, cultivate positive qualities, and live a life free of suffering.

Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana are three schools of thought. Buddhist Schools and Regional Variations

Buddhism is a multifaceted religion with numerous schools and regional variations. Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana are the three major schools of Buddhism. Each of these schools has its own distinct set of teachings and practices, as well as regional variations based on the cultures in which they arose.

Buddhism of the Theravada school

Theravada Buddhism is the most traditional and conservative school of Buddhism. It is predominantly practiced in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos. Theravada Buddhists believe that the Buddha's teachings should be understood and practiced exactly as they were taught, with no changes or adaptations. Individual liberation through the development of wisdom and insight is the primary focus of Theravada Buddhism.

Buddhism of the Mahayana school

The Mahayana school of Buddhism is the largest and is primarily practiced in China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. According to Mahayana Buddhists, the Buddha's teachings can be adapted and modified to meet the needs of different cultures and times. The primary goal of Mahayana Buddhism is to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings, rather than just oneself. Mahayana Buddhism also emphasizes compassion and the use of skillful means to assist others in attaining liberation.

Buddhism of the Vajrayana school

Vajrayana Buddhism is mostly practiced in Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan. Vajrayana Buddhists believe that enlightenment can be attained in a single lifetime by employing tantric practices and following the instructions of a qualified teacher. Vajrayana Buddhism's primary focus is on realizing the true nature of reality, which is said to be hidden by delusions and negative emotions.

Distinctions Between the Three Schools

The teachings and practices of the three schools of Buddhism differ greatly. One significant distinction is their emphasis on individual liberation versus universal liberation. Theravada Buddhism emphasizes individual liberation, whereas Mahayana Buddhism emphasizes universal liberation, and Vajrayana Buddhism emphasizes both.
Another distinction is in how they approach meditation. Insight meditation is emphasized in Theravada Buddhism as a means of developing wisdom and insight, whereas concentration and visualization practices are emphasized in Mahayana Buddhism to develop compassion and skillful means. As a means of achieving enlightenment, Vajrayana Buddhism places a strong emphasis on deity yoga and visualization practices.

Buddhist Varieties by Region

There are many regional variations of Buddhism based on the cultures in which they developed, in addition to the three main schools of Buddhism. Tibetan Buddhism, a type of Vajrayana Buddhism, for example, incorporates many elements of pre-Buddhist Tibetan religion, such as the use of prayer flags, incense, and ritual offerings. Zen Buddhism, a Mahayana Buddhist school that originated in Japan, emphasizes the use of koans and zazen (sitting meditation). Thai Buddhism, a branch of Theravada Buddhism, places a strong emphasis on mindfulness practice and the commemoration of Buddhist holidays and festivals.

Buddhism's Global Spread

One of the world's oldest religions, Buddhism, has spread far beyond its origins in ancient India. Buddhism has had a significant impact on the world, with over 500 million adherents worldwide. In this blog post, we will look at the global spread of Buddhism, its role in modern societies, and the impact of technology on Buddhism.
Buddhism has spread throughout Asia and beyond. Buddhism spread from India to Sri Lanka in the first century BCE, when Buddhist missionaries traveled from India. Buddhism spread throughout Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. Buddhism gained popularity in East Asia, particularly in China, Korea, and Japan. Buddhism now has a global following, with communities in Europe, North America, and Australia.

Buddhism's Role in Modern Societies

Buddhism has played an important role in modern societies. Buddhism is popular because of its teachings on mindfulness, compassion, and inner peace. Buddhism has also had an impact on the arts, such as literature, music, and visual arts. Buddhist practices like meditation and mindfulness have grown in popularity in the West, with people using them to relieve stress and improve their mental health.

The Impact of Technology on Buddhism

Technology has had a significant impact on Buddhism. Through online resources and social media, technology has aided in the spread of Buddhist teachings in recent years. Many Buddhist teachers and communities have websites, podcasts, and online courses, allowing people all over the world to learn about Buddhism. Technology has also made it possible to connect with other Buddhists around the world, allowing for greater collaboration and idea exchange.
However, there are also concerns about how technology will affect traditional Buddhist practices. Some critics argue that technology can be a distraction from the present moment, which is a key Buddhist tenet. Others are concerned that technology will diminish the importance of face-to-face interaction in traditional Buddhist communities.
Buddhism's global spread has had a significant impact on modern societies. Buddhism's teachings of mindfulness, compassion, and inner peace have assisted many people in finding meaning and purpose in their lives. Technology has been instrumental in disseminating Buddhist teachings, but it has also raised concerns about its impact on traditional practices. Despite these obstacles, Buddhism remains a powerful force for good in the world.

2023.03.29 04:58 Spaghetti_Mercury My roommate's telepathic octopus sent me a letter (Part 2)

Hi there. I’m frank, and if you read my previous post, you’ll know that something very bizarre happened to me recently. Well, I should say it happened to my roommate more so than me. If you haven’t read my previous post, you can read it here.. This one will not make sense if you haven’t read the previous one, "My new roommate's octopus is telepathic".
(Sorry the link isn't fancier)

Now that you are all caught up with the craziness I witnessed, I'd like to fill you in on a new development. Ever since Larry/Mike left, I have felt very lonely. It’s depressing to realize that an octopus was my only friend, but that’s where I’m at. Life has felt a lot more boring and monotonous. That’s why I was ecstatic when I got a letter in the mail the other day.
The letter was addressed to me from someone named Larry Michaels. It took me longer than I’d like to admit to realize that it was from the octopus. As he was leaving, he told me his name was Larry. I don’t know if that’s true, but I don’t know any other Larrys. The last name being Michaels makes sense because Mike was the name of my former roommate whose body Larry had occupied.
I guess it’s a little cruel to take the man’s body and his name, but he did keep Larry in a tank for years without letting him out or giving him any sort of attention or stimulation. I’d be pissed too.
Either way, I was pretty certain the letter was from Larry and after reading it I was pretty positive. Unless I completely blacked it out, there weren’t any other octopuses I had established a friendship with..
I’m going to share the letter verbatim. Larry has been very busy in his new body. I’ve been busy myself though. I don’t like admitting it but I sold a few of Mike’s things assuming he wasn’t going to be needing them anytime soon. To this point, not a single person has called or come to the house looking for him. Either Larry tied up those loose ends or Mike didn’t have many people in his life. It’s hard to say. We weren’t very close.
Anyway, I sold the klonopin in Mike’s drawer to a neighbor. I dumped the roofies because… They’re roofies. There’s no good reason to have them and I don’t want to put them in the hands of another pervert. I just flushed all but one down the toilet. I took the one with some wine just to see what it was like. I don’t recommend it.
About a week after Larry/Mike left, I told the landlord. I didn’t want him to expect me to pay Mike’s half of the rent. It wasn’t long before I was informed that someone else would be moving in.
The new roommate's name is Oliver. He goes by Ollie. It’s only been a few weeks, but he seems like an all right roommate. He’s pretty quiet but he keeps to himself. We’ve had a few short conversations but he seems like a lone wolf, aka the ideal roommate.
I put the rest of Mike’s stuff in storage aside from stuff we could use around the apartment. I got a new cord for the stereo system I had previously destroyed so Larry didn’t have to listen to country music. Work has been boring, but going well. Life isn’t too bad but after bonding with a telepathic octopus, everything else feels a little monotonous. So I was very excited to get a letter from Larry. I’m starting to dig the craziness. It makes life so much more interesting! Anyway, I’ll dictate Larry’s letter here….
Dear Frank,
I hope all is well and I hope you aren’t traumatized by what you witnessed before I left. Are you sure you though, you missed the most unpleasant part. The entry. It didn’t go very smoothly and he fought like hell. At one point I thought his sphincter was going to snap me in half. But like the little engine that could, I got up in there. You know that though. I’m writing to tell you what I’ve been up to since I left. Call it an update as well as a warning.
Now, I don’t want to alarm you. I am on your side and every octopus I’ve met knows that you’re one of the good people. There aren’t many but there are a few that we revere. The issue is that we aren’t exactly one unit anymore. I’ll explain what happened but essentially, we split into factions.
My first order of business after leaving was to free as many sea creatures from captivity as I possibly could. I went to aquariums, zoos, restaurants, and eventually tracked down an exotic animal smuggler and dismantled their operation entirely. I’m like the Harriet Tubman of octopuses!
The exotic animal Smugglers were a big find. I had freed some octopuses from an aquarium and they tipped me off about the operation. I helped my new friends find new shells. Those shells were the aforementioned animal smugglers. They were bad people.
I assure you that we haven’t caused any harm to good people, only people who harm us. These people had captured, killed, and sold everything from sea creatures to dogs to ivory. I’m not calling you dumb Frank, but in case you don’t know what ivory is, it’s like elephant tusks and rhino horns. They serve a purpose for the animal, but humans grind them up to try to get boners. I have advised my new companions to avoid taking good people like you as vessels, but the ivory boner people are fair game.
so before long, there were eight of us in human vessels as well as several we either hadn’t found bodies for. There were also a few who had no interest in taking a human shell. Someone joined us in the fight, and some headed back for the ocean to be free and to try to find their families.
Everything was going pretty well for a while. We had quickly taken over the animal smuggling operation. We followed the ladder all the way to the top and to the bottom, getting more cephalopods into human bodies in the process. We were able to liberate any animal that was brought to us and punish those who mistreat our kind.
There is a but coming. I’ll explain once I’m done laughing at that sentence.. Okay, I’m good.
We had liberated a lot of sea creatures in a very short amount of time and it started to seem like us taking over didn’t have to be a dream for our children. It could be a reality for ourselves. Humans aren’t able to wrap their minds around what we really are. By the time they do, we’re already up in there.
Still though, I believe strongly that not all humans deserve to lose control of their own bodies. If I didn’t feel that way I’d be as bad as the supreme court. Sorry, I’ve been getting into politics. It makes it a lot harder to like humans, but you keep me going Frank. You’re my Northstar. The reason that we aren’t killing humans indiscriminately. You should feel proud of that!
I’m getting off topic though. I’m not just writing this to keep in touch (although I do miss ya bud.) I’m writing to warn you about something very dangerous.. Jeff..
Jeff was among the cephalopods we freed from a restaurant. He’d been there for a while and witnessed unspeakable horrors. He watched helplessly as his peers were killed, cooked, and in some cases even boiled alive! It messed him up..
I tried to talk to him. I told him about good humans. I told him about you. It didn’t matter though. His hatred was too strong. I didn’t realize until he went on an absolute rampage..
He returned to the restaurant we saved him from in his new human form. You likely heard about it in the news.. It was a massacre.. He figured guns out very quickly and the human whose body he took had several. He left no survivors at that restaurant. Customers, employees, a guy stopping for a piss at the worst possible time..
His picture was all over the news. He was forced to exit the body he was using and find a new one. The others and I discussed trapping him and preventing him from taking another human host. Some felt that it would make us hypocrites. Others were just too afraid of Jeff. Once he got a new body, I knew that a power struggle was right around the corner.
I decided to confront him. He not only killed indiscriminately. He led the police to the warehouse we were using as a base of operations. It had belonged to the animal smugglers. It was not only a nice, large place for us to stay, but associates of the smugglers were still bringing us animals we could liberate. Jeff ruined that.
When I confronted him, it didn’t go well. I argued that while most humans suck, they aren’t all bad. Some are even pretty cool. Some are helpful.
He didn’t agree. He felt that humans were the most destructive force on the planet. I couldn’t really argue that, but I tried to explain that not all humans are alike. He didn’t care though. I’ve been motivated by survival. Jeff is motivated by revenge.
Our argument became physical and even though I could easily lie to you, I’ll be honest and tell you that I got my ass whooped. His vessel was much stronger than mine. If only Mike had done some push-ups instead of Jager bombs. If he got any exercise whatsoever outside of masturbation.
In any case, Mike’s body isn’t very tough. Jeff beat me up but we were eventually broken up by the rest of the group. We then held a vote. Me and Jeff essentially began campaigning against one another. We disagreed on the proper way to achieve our goals.
The vote was pretty split and we essentially decided to go our separate ways. We agreed to a truce, but Jeff and the others who went with him are very dangerous to you..
He quickly started finding new ways to get more cephalopods into more human bodies. He had the advantage of being completely ruthless. When I liberated animals, I used clever tactics and tricks to avoid violence. He simply kills anything or anyone that is in his way.
Jeff is amassing an army.. he’s moving very quickly and he sees every human as the same people who trapped him and planned to eat him. He’s like a.. racist. Well, a bigot? He thinks you guys are all the same.. and he wants you all done and he wants you all dead.
There are multiple reasons why I’m telling you this. The first is that you need to know that Jeff and his followers are a direct danger to you especially. You are the example I use to explain to other sea creatures that not all humans are evil. They have all heard of you and those who support me revere you. Unfortunately, the ones who follow Jeff are aware of you as well.. I just wouldn’t put it past Jeff to target you in order to hurt me..
I understand that this is probably alarming. We made a recent discovery though that can help you. The number of human beings being controlled by an octopus are rapidly increasing. Jeff is on a mission, meaning my group has to take over more bodies and recruit more cephalopods to make sure his group can’t overpower us..
I saved that prick from becoming someone’s half eaten dinner! Now I need to turn my focus toward preventing him from ruining everything we’ve worked for. We want eventual dominance of the planet, but not as antagonists. Jeff can’t see that he’s just as bad as the people who enslaved him. Unfortunately, he’s charismatic and brash. Several of the others found those traits endearing.
I’m getting sidetracked though. Point is, fuck Jeff! But also.. be careful. I expect them to try and find you. Very few of my new associates know where you live. Unfortunately, one of those associates has recently decided to follow Jeff..
We made a discovery though. I don’t know how none of us realized it earlier, but when we inhabit a human’s body, there is a noticeable change. Slits in the neck. They’re very small and resemble gills. Small gills though. Just a series of small openings that help us breathe.
Once we noticed the slits, we realized that we could easily identify whether a human was “inhabited”. We all have different ways of hiding the slits. Scarves, turtlenecks, bandanas, long hair, ect.
They aren’t very big, but once you notice them, you reallly start noticing them. Kind of like when I told you that you walk like a prostitute. It’s hard not to notice it everytime after the first time. You end up wondering how you never noticed it in the first place. Don’t sweat it though, bud. It looks good on ya.
To be clear. When I said don’t sweat it, I’m referring to your prostitute walk. When it comes to Jeff and his goons, sweat it. Sweat it hard! They are very dangerous. I’m so sorry that I put you at risk. I should’ve known better than to tell them about you. You were just the best example of good humans that I had. That’s a compliment inside an apology! A compoligy a complimentoligy. An apocliment? Either way, I’m sorry.
Before my group and Jeff’s group separated, we had a plan. We are going to take over the bodies of American politicians. We are going to run for office and make changes that will jump start our plans. We are going to be in charge of all the people without them even knowing that all their arguing and fighting amongst one another is really over a cephalopod who wants to destroy them.
It seems like a tough task but they’ve already been dumped down to an extent that all we need to do is piss off the bass we’re running for. It’s bizarre how the most dominant species on the planet is so simplistic when it comes to social and political issues. Literally all we have to do is pick a party and talk about how the other one is terrible and evil. Your politicians don’t even tell people what their plans are anymore. They just talk about how the other side is terrible. That’s easy.
It would’ve been easy. With Jeff involved, things have become much more complicated. It was only days after our separation that he had taken over a prominent politician’s body. I can’t say who, but they are one of the people who have announced they will run for president in 2024.. They’re Jeff now, and I need your help making sure that he doesn’t win.
(Larry told me which politician Jeff had inhabited. I’m not going to include it because people are very unlikely to believe me anyway, and I don’t want to have political arguments in the comment section. His letter continued..)
I’m writing this note because I miss my human buddy, but also to warn you. Jeff’s goons could target you to hurt me.. You need to be vigilant. You also need to vote in 24! If Jeff wins, he’ll start a war. He’ll fire off the nukes. In the short time we spent together, he shared how unhinged he really is.
You have to help stop him. I need you to campaign for me and my candidate. I need you going door to door and calling strangers. I need you to find any dirt on the human whose body Jeff is possessing that you can.
Make sure to watch for the slits in the neck as well. If an octopus in a human's body introduces themselves to you, they are one of Jeff’s goons. I will tell you if I’m coming for a visit and I plan to eventually, but stopping Jeff is paramount and it needs all of my focus and attention. If you see someone with slits in their neck, get away from them as fast as you can.
Once all my ducks are in a row, I plan to have a friend of mine get a place near you to help protect you from Jeff. I need to figure out who I can trust first, though. I’ve already had one Jeff supporter stayed behind to spy. We sniffed him out quickly but there could be more.
So in the meantime, keep your eyes peeled and your head low. I will be in touch very soon. Once we take control of your government, I will reward you for your friendship. I’ll hook you up with whatever you need. I just need you to help me get my guy elected.
In the meantime, watch for the slits. I know I’m repeating myself but it’s vastly important that you get the hell out of there if you see them. Do what you can to help my guy’s campaign. And don’t worry about the fact that you walk like a prostitute. Most people probably won’t notice unless it’s pointed out to them at which point they’ll never be able to see anything other than a crack whore coming their way when you’re approaching.
Take care of yourself, Frank. Our time is coming. I know we’re a separate species. I know that some of my relatives are a direct threat to you. We’re the same though. We are kindred spirits. When my fellow cephalopods and I run this country, I want you by my side. “Gooble gobble one of us!” Ha!
I realize that I’m rambling now. The main point is to watch out for Jeff’s goons and get as many people as you can to vote for my guy.
I will write again soon. Things are a bit crazy right now. I’d like to see you. I’m not too manly to admit that I miss you. It’s just dangerous until I take care of Jeff.. Fucking Jeff..
Anyway, take care of yourself and be careful. I’ll contact you again as soon as I can.
~Your old pal, Larry.
I was ecstatic to hear from Larry. I missed him. Our friendship was strange obviously, But it was still one of the most meaningful friendships I ever had. It was admittedly difficult to look past what he did to Mike. He claims he was a predator, but I can’t really be sure about that. Dude did have roofies though, so..
I received this letter a few days ago and have been trying to process what Larry wrote. I’ve become a bit paranoid and haven’t gone anywhere since I received it. Jeff or his goons could be anywhere. That’s assuming there is a Jjeff and it’s not just Larry messing with me or something dumb like that. I trust him though..
I don’t know why I do. I just do. When the election comes around, I will vote for his guy. I’ll try to assist him in any way I can. I probably won’t be able to look at people in general without wondering if there’s an octopus in there somewhere. That’s become a bit of a problem already. Now I know that there’s more of them so my paranoia will probably consume me completely.
I’ve decided that in the meantime, I’m going to try not to dwell on those thoughts. If Jeff is really trying to become the president, he won’t have time to deal with me.
I continued thinking that way for the next couple of days. I felt like everything was gonna be okay even though it didn’t really seem that way. I figured that I could just put it all out of my mind for the time being.
As I was just sitting here typing this up on my phone, my roommate, Ollie came in. Similar to when I lived with Mike, Ollie and I work separate shifts and rarely see each other. This was the one day of the week where we were both home at the same time.
As I was finishing typing up Larry’s letter, Ollie came and sat on the couch. Up to this point, we both kind of kept to ourselves while remaining friendly with each other. He seems more chatty right now..
He saw the name on the envelope. He asked who Larry was. I told him it was an old friend from back home. He asked what the letter was about and I came up with a weak excuse to avoid telling him. Something about a friend being depressed. I said it was private and I didn’t wanna share it with anyone.
He reacted strangely. He rolled his eyes and pretty much openly said that he didn’t believe me. He didn’t pry though. He asked if I could put the news on the tv for a bit. I asked him which channel and his answer wasn’t ideal. I won’t say which network this propaganda station was because I don’t want to say which parties Larry and Jeff are trying to infiltrate. Let’s just say that it was Jeff’s party’s station.
I tried to avoid rolling my eyes from the moment I turned it to that channel. It’s just become so ridiculous. They don’t even pretend to be news anymore. It’s blatant, transparent propaganda and hate fuel.
Maybe Larry can change that if his plan works out. Maybe he could present some of the division that is constantly pushed by today’s news stations on the pundits. The scary thing is that that likely isn’t the case regardless of who wins. Larry, Jeff, or another human president will probably just make things even worse.. A guy can hope though.
I’m trying to avoid the TV as I finish typing this up. As I got to thinking about political nonsense, my eyes started to wander and I noticed Ollie’s tattoos. I noticed them before and thought they were pretty cool but never asked about them. I assumed it would be something that could get us talking because I like tattoos and he’s covered in them.
When I asked power mode she was excited to show me. He had a full sleeve that continued up his neck all the way to behind his ear.
I should’ve looked sooner. I should’ve noticed it. My concern is he started showing me his tattoos. Almost all of them were sea themed. A kraken ripping a ship apart, several sea creatures, and a city underwater. Those were just a few of the tattoos that led me to the realization..
I’ll admit that they looked cool and were well done, but I couldn’t look past the sea theme and cities underwater that look like they’d been hit by a tsunami.
Then I saw the slits.. Ollie (if that’s his real name) found a clever way to hide his slits. They look like they are a part of the tattoo. I never noticed them even after reading Larry’s letter. Like I said, we haven’t spent much time around each other.
I froze upon this realization. This was clearly what Larry warned me about.. he was clearly a “Jeff” supporter.. He’s not on my side..
I have to admit, even though I considered Larry a friend, I'd been having nightmares where I saw him in Mike’s body again. Thinking about it freaks me out. I’ve convinced myself that Mike probably deserved it, but I don’t honestly know that..
I don’t know if anyone deserves that fate.. maybe I do for enabling this all to happen. I’m really not as nihilistic as Larry thinks. I don’t want humans taken over by octopus people. I just don’t know if it’s any worse than what’s going on in the world lately.
What I do know is that the idea of what happened to Mike happening to me shakes me to my core and I’m now sitting next to a potentially innocent person suffering the same fate as well as the angry, parasitic creature responsible for it. Not only that, but if Larry is telling the truth, then he’s here for me..
I tried to continue complimenting his tattoos without revealing what I just realized. I tried to act normal and avoid being suspicious. Something about the look in his eyes made me feel like he knew, though.
There was a pause after I rambled a little where I felt certain that he was about to reveal himself and attack me. Instead, he asked if I wanted a beer. I said yes and he headed to the kitchen and grabbed some.
I’m posting this now in case he knows that I know. Assuming I still have control of my own body, I will update soon. Until then, wish me luck. Keep a lookout for people with slits on the side of their necks.. Oh! And vote for Larry!
I’m going to post now but Ollie just walked back in with beers. The first thing he said was “who are you planning on voting for in 24?”
I don’t know how.. but I completely forgot that they can read minds.. He knows.. He knows that I know.. Man, we really don’t stand a chance.. I just hope Larry wi.. changes his mind! It’s time for a change! It’s time for a new world! So come 2024, vote Jeff!

2023.03.29 04:44 International_Dig37 Any tips for playing multicultural/multireligious realms?

So I'm new to CK3 and playing Elder Kings II. It's a roleplay save and I see my player character as someone who isn't interested in changing the cultures or most religions around her. She's nominally a member of her religion and keeps up appearances, but isn't actually very faithful. And as a half-Dunmer half-Nord, I don't think she necessarily views her Dunmeri mother's culture as superior either. Spreading her religion or culture (especially displacing innocent humans to do it) doesn't seem very IC.
One thing she doesn't like is Mephala cultists- I see her as a bit of a Ned Stark type, too preoccupied with being just and an honorable warrior to be very good at intrigue. Her spymaster has uncovered murder scheme after murder scheme and some of her descendants have been murdered, so I see her as very much sick of courtly backstabbing getting people killed. I think Mephala cultists are a bit of a scapegoat for the greater issues with Dunmer society for her, and she thinks if she can take away their power, House Hlaluu will be much safer.
TL;DR, she is now holding land that once belonged to Imperial humans in her quest to break the Mephala cult. I don't think she would want to convert the humans away from following the Divines or change the culture to her own. Of course, it hasn't been like this long and her poor liege has had to deal with so many populist factions. Is there any way to minimize this while staying in character (so no murder plots and such)?
If there isn't, fair enough. It might be interesting to see this character's flaws lead to a downfall of her dynasty. On the other hand, I think extending some kind of olive branch to make the situation more tenable would be IC, if there's any in-game way to do it. Do you have any tips?

2023.03.29 04:34 DasRitter Why do so many people hate Karen Travis?

I don't get the hate guys. She is, to be honest along with Zhan, Karpyshyn, and Luciano, Miller and Jan and Dan one of my favorite Star Wars authors ever.
Let's go over everything. Her departure from Star wars over a pay dispute. wasn't helped by The Clone Wars series, in which she wrote the Novel for the movie adaptation I might add, retconning stuff she was authorized to write (She had no problem with it as a whole.) Though to be fair she left mostly over DEATH STAR Day from what I hear, along with the pay dispute.
Second, I see people whine and complain about her making the Mandalorians mary sues.
Jango and Boba are known to have killed multiple Jedi. Jango killed six WITH HIS BARE HANDS AND A ROCK. The True Mandalorians killed HALF of Dooku's strike team. Cleary Mandalorians have trained to kill Jedi since the Great Sith War 4000 BBY. Boba Keeps Lighsabers as trophies from his kills like Grevious. (Robert Chicken was not as far from reality as you think)
People complain about her portraying the Jedi badly.
Uh, they have flaws, not every Jedi is as good a leader and Officer as say Obi-Wan, Anakin, Mace, Ki-Adi Mundi, Yoda, or Plo, etc. Some were either complete bastards like Krell, distrustful of them like Quinlan Vos, or Bigotts like Rahm Kota. I know everyone loves Kota (myself included), especially as he saved himself during Order 66. But he was being a bigot and looked down on them like Pong Krell did as if they were less than human because they were born in a laboratory. Also, They were trained by Jango and his MANDALORIAN Drill Sergeants. AFTER Galadran. I know Jango trained his ARCs to be Loyal to the Republic and the Jedi as a matter of professionalism, but Walon Vau, on other hand hated the Jedi and cheered when Order 66 came down from Palpatine. Certain Mandalorian characters despising the Jedi after the True Mandalorians were slaughtered make sense.
The Slave/Child Soldier debate.
Jusik makes a good point I will just use his quote.
"So how do we justify what we are doing now? Breeding men without choice, and freedom, to fight and die for us? When do the means cease to justify the end? Where is our society heading? Where are our ideals, and what are we without them? If we give in to expedience in this way, where do we draw the line between ourselves and those we find unacceptably evil? I have no answer, Masters. Do you?" ―Bardan Jusik, as a Jedi Knight, addressing the Jedi Council on the matter of clone troopers[
She is more blunt than Dave Filoni. Though they both make the same point. They are not droids. They are men. Being used as slaves. And I don't think most Star Wars fans want to look at the ugliness of it. The Kamiminoans put defective clones down like animals. Jango, his DSs , many of the Jedi, and the people of the Republic and birth born Auxilary Troops (Formerly the Judicial Forces) of the GAR are the only people who cared about them. Even if Palpatine respected them, he still just viewed them as expendable.
Mandalorians being honorable.
Even Knost Dural respected the Mandalorians back in the old days. While, if it is true that the post-Travis books in FOJ were trying to fuck her over, which is a despicable thing to do if they did that; having Amoral Mercenary Mandos is totally fine too, they are not a monolith. Look at Satine or Tor Viszla. She seems kind of like Bill Shatner, maybe a bit prickly but has die-hard fans who she gets along with really well. I would be afraid to meet her lest my view pisses her off LOL. (I think the New Mandalorians fit nearly into the lore if they say that the western Hemisphere is where Keldabe is and the east is where the glassed deserts are with the weakling pacifists. it makes sense with Jaster leaving to found the True Mandalorians and Tor being the father of Pre Visla as the running theory that many go with, and Paz Viszla being Pre's son. I use that in my fan works that work the Best New canon stuff into the EU lore.)
Now, on to IRL stuff.
Fighting with the fans.
Look, going berserk because of Toxic fans,( yes I know wokies use that term as a mislabel to complain when we say KK's stuff is sh*t but they are indeed real) is understandable. I do feel bad when who a guy was a fan was treated badly by her on the official star forum when he was 12 back in 2005 or so, but to be fair, was she aware he was only a kid? She likely would have been more understanding. (He got certain Mandalorian terms wrong and she accused him of skimming irritably) But I know some dudes from Mandalorian Mercs who had a great time with her and even did the Der Wherrda Verda in front of her. They had a lot of fun.
Her introduction of gay Mandos
I personally think this ridiculous for a hyper-heterosexual and Manly culture with traditional gender roles to be openly okay with gays. It would be possible for Naboo or Alderaan. But Mandalore? Nah man. Much more likely for them to be like Ancient Rome which TOLERATED Gays. But never liked them. The Death Watch is probably like the Spartans who killed or exiled gays.
Accusing her of being partial to Moari men.
So?. Why on earth would that be a problem? If she likes Moari men as her personal preference for men that is totally fine. I like Moari women as my preference, along with Latinas, Northern European Women, etc. I like the women I like. She likes the men she likes. No problem if she wants a Maorai Chad to sweep her off her feet and take her to the Polynesian spa. XD A non issue.
Her not wanting to share my characters.
That's understandable. I would only want these above-mentioned authors along with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni to be able to use my characters. Certainly not the hacks at the Lucasfilm story group. George is the Boss man. But I probably would rather have these two look after my stuff since he can make mistakes (The Love Scenes in Attack of the Clones.) Personally, I hope Jon and Dave can give out an olive branch to her to bring back on board when KK is shown the door..She worked on Clone Wars Content before. She needs to have some guardrails in place to keep from going overboard like Jon and Dave working to over see her content. Like George himself needs a moderating influence to not go crazy. A lot of movies have directors who go wild without some guidance who are still good directors, Zach Snyder comes to mind.
Her arguing with other veterans on military matters on the Star Wars Forums.
She served at least one term as a British enlisted woman, maybe more, then became a war correspondent, so her arguments with US and other Commonwealth troops over her Military tactics in the books is kind of silly. They also had a former Navy Seal train the Motion Capture and writers for the game so....
Her use of British terminology. Not an issue.
Feel free to comment.

2023.03.29 04:28 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Gameplay: What Changes Could We See?

2023.03.29 04:26 fire209 The Steel Dragon

* **Name / Alias:** Elira Scale / The Steel Dragon
* **Age:** 27 Mentally, 8 Years since Awakening
* **Alignment:** Villain (Mafia)

# Public Information

The Steel Dragon is a well known mafia cape from New York, one of their higher level enforcers, she's a versatile brute, and an easy icon. Images depicting her in her iconic steel scales laying on a mound of golden scales circulated a couple years back, leading to her iconic name, The Steel Dragon.

She's a case 53 well known for her Mafia connection, a brute able to fly and launch her scales. Those with access to the protectorate database would also note her changing scales over the years, akin to various metals, and that she has a tendency to leave scales attached to things, and seems to serve as some kind of spy for the mafia, though the specific means are unknown.

*Starting Reputation:* B$

# Physical Appearance

A large lizard-human with metallic scales, she stands at 8'6" if she fully extends herself upwards, though she tends to hunch to a much more comfortable 6'7". She has a large tail trailing roughly 5' behind her. Generally she's the color of steel, the primary material she makes her scales out of, since it is easy to get and a convenient and tough material for her scales.

Her rune, a classic Futhark, appears inscribed on the underside of every metal scale she grows.

# Mentality

She's very pragmatic, and loyal to the Mafia. She had been found and shunned as a monster when she first awakened, especially an early incident where she broke into a hardware store and ravenously began eating the metal components. The Mafia found her and took her in. She was treated well, and became an enforcer at the New York mafia. She was well suited to the work, quickly climbing ranks to her current spot, where she's more or less comfortable to stay.

She listens, and does what she's told. She's pragmatic, and quick thinking. She doesn't freeze in a fight, and is a good fighter, honed by years of experience. She struggles with empathy and reigning herself in on occasion, going a little too "Lizard brain" and considering her opponents prey before she's snapped out of it.

# Equipment and Resources

* Burner Phone - She pretty much always carries one on her when she can. Has had incidents in the past where she wasn't able to reach others in a time of need, and determined not to repeat it.
* Zip-tie Handcuffs - A useful restraining tool, she tends to keep a handful with her.
* Flashlight - Never know when you might need it
* A few small steel bars - Yummy snacks for the road

She has a small apartment in the city, and has food delivered to her. She lacks a vehicle, preferring to fly everywhere since she's too heavy for most normal vehicles unless she focuses on using her power to lift her a bit, making her lighter.

*Wealth Level:* 5

# Skills

* Excellent hand-to-claw fighter, powerful and strong, and she's a skilled grappler. She's not going to be winning martial arts contests on pure technique alone but she can definitely hold her own.
* Skilled survivalist, part instinct and part training she's able to survive in the wild basically no problem.
* Highly skilled miner, she's got a nose for metals and can sniff out veins through rock. Between her ability to just eat rock, strength, and ability to claw through the ground she's able to gather metals in the wild fairly easily, though these will generally be low quality and low purity, not the greatest stuff to make her scales from, but they will do in a pinch.
* Passable with guns, knows how to use them but finds them finnicky and hard to use. Much prefers to eat the guns and ammunition.
* Highly skilled chef though she rarely exercises this ability. In fact she will generally simply roast or scorch meat (Or even eat it raw), finding it perfectly palatable, but when persuaded she's a killer cook, and knows how to make tasty meals with relatively ordinary materials.
* Amateur florist and gardener. She keeps a small garden in her home, and is mostly capable of keeping her flowers alive and healthy, though she isn't an expert.
* Amateur Sculptor. She likes to make little figurines from metal in her free time. Her spit makes metal easy to mold, which she uses to make sculpting metals easier.

# Power

She's a case 53, a large lizard-like humanoid covered in a sheen of metallic scales the size of a fingernail, with large metallic claws at the ends of her hands and feet, and large black fangs.

She can control her scales, making them fly around up to 100 meters from her before she loses control. They fly with enough force to chip concrete and embed themselves in steel (Though this damages the small scales at full force). Damaged scales become Untuned, and fall off her and can no longer be controlled/sensed. Lost scales regrow within a day. Each scale is able to lift up to 1 pound. Her claws can also be detached, each about 5x stronger than a normal scale and able to lift up to 5 pounds.

She can make the scales stick to things strongly. While at least 1/3rd of her body is covered in scales she is able to fly, though only at a walking pace. While her full body is covered, she's able to fly up to 80 MPH, though this is not agile at high speeds, needing lots of time to slow, speed up, or turn.

While the scales are within 100 meters, she can hear through them, though this scales with the number of scales, 1 scale being like she's half-deaf and 20 scales allowing her to pinpoint sounds to an exact location and hear very clearly, or hear frequencies that normal people can't. She can only hear through scales that aren't stuck to her. She always knows the position of every scale as long as they aren't Untuned, no matter the distance. Her scales are able to stick to things, though can be dislodged by hand with some force.

While the scales are covering a part, the part is roughly 50% stronger than baseline. Baseline, she's able to bite with the force of an alligator, strike with the force of a middleweight boxing champion, and lift up to 2,000 lbs. Electricity when striking her scales will harmlessly deflect around her generally, doing no damage, but disproportionately causes scales to become untuned and fall off her. A taser strike will remove about a hand's worth of scales. Beneath her scales, her skin / flesh is as durable as strong and tough leather.

The durability of a scale /area on her body is roughly that of an inch-thick plate of that material. Scales regenerate within a day of being damaged, and scales that are off of her body for more than a day become untuned and need to be regrown.

The material her scales are made out of depends on what metals she is consuming. She is essentially always shedding old scales, causing them to regrow as the new scales of the metal. She can consume her old scales as a source of metal. Her scales inherit most of the properties of the metals she consumes, though power-made material can have unpredictable effects, and may not be able to be "re-consumed" from her own scales depending on the material.

She is capable of eating essentially anything. Chemicals and toxins, unless power enhanced do not affect her. While she does enjoy the taste of meat, she is able to subsist and generally prefers eating metals. Without consuming metals her scale regeneration slows to a halt, and her scales burnish and weaken over time. Her jaws disproportionally damage metals, causing them to deform easily for easy consumption. This can be used to her advantage in a battle. She's able to identify metals by their smell, and has a fairly strong sense of smell for it, comparable to that of a bloodhound.

She additionally has a slow regeneration, able to heal removed digits, limbs, and other body parts with 2 weeks of time and a lot of consumed meat.

She's cold-blooded, and enjoys the heat. Effects which cool her and colder times of the year make her sluggish and tired, and she's liable to be knocked unconscious if cooled enough. She's more resilient to higher temperatures than normal, especially with her scales on, though this isn't full protection. She's comfortable at oven temperatures but higher than that she's liable to overheat, which can be more problematic for her since she can't sweat, and will thermoregulate more slowly than others unless she has a way to cool herself down.

*Trigger type:* Coven Case 53 Brute(Mover, Blaster, Thinker)

# Example

A series of small scales shoot through the door undetected as a customer exits the jewelry store, as she watches discreetly from an alley across the street. The scales carefully tap gently on the floor and walls as they go, not enough to cause noticeable noise but enough for her to hear through her sense of them as they get a rough outline of the store, and track the small noises. A single person. Nobody in the back room. A perfect time.

Striding up to the glass front door she punches through it, shattering it as the scales throughout the store shoot back up onto her back where she'd taken them from. With a wave of her hand the claws on her right hand and many of the scales on that arm race outwards, sticking to the one clerk's clothing and suspending him, lifting him up to the ceiling. She then gets to work, using her left hand she punches through any display cases and grabs the jewelry, stuffing it into a backpack she had brought. Once she's had her fill she recalls the scales holding the clerk up with a yelp from him as he's lowered to the floor and then they zip away, and she launches out of the front door, taking off into the sky and accelerating away.

# Backstory

She was sitting in the little room in her robes, waiting for the doctor to come in. It was fine, really. She had taken a small fall and passed out for a bit after getting a bit woozy from dehydration. Her mother was so worried, so she went to the hospital to allay worries, and was now waiting in the office for her test results.

The doctor walks in, solemn, and she picks up on it, quieting down, asking "Hey- is everything alright with me?". No, it is not. She has Brain Cancer, terminal. They caught it too late. She has 6 months to live, maybe a year if they start treatment now. Shell-shocked she makes her way home from the hospital, and decides one thing- she can't tell her mother. They'd lost her father a few years back to pancreatic cancer, and she couldn't burden her mother with that.

She begins looking desperately for a solution, anything. This is a crazy world after all, maybe powers had the solution. Any healer cost.. too much. They were busy at children's hospitals and healing other capes, and the price would have been prohibitive. Fine. She looks further, sketchier corners and finds a strange ad directing her to a website. Just contact information, and a little flourish about "A price for power." Well, power was nice. But she'd pay any price to be healed.

When she gets in touch, there's only one thing she's asked. What will she give up in exchange for power. "Everything."

On the grimy streets of New York, 3 months after Elizabeth Cole Alexander disappeared from Connecticut, a lizard awakens. At first she's shunned by superstitious locals, and ends up in a small incident where she's so hungry she ends up attacking a hardware store and ravenously begins consuming the metal parts. After being attacked and threatened off by aggressive local heroes, called a monster- she's left in an alley to lick her wounds, when a local Mafia cape finds her, and invites her to the group.

She accepted, and joined the group's ranks, quickly climbing as an enforcer and finding she's good at it- enjoys fighting. She works her way up as a Mafia enforcer in New York over the years, highs and lows, and enjoys a successful career.

That is, until she's called for a transfer. Devilfish needing more staff, she was sent. While not entirely happy to be away from the home she'd known all her life, she's determined to make what she can of the opportunity, and help this branch in Devilfish flourish.
