2023.06.02 17:41 Better_Signature_451 berberine to get preg, but not safe for pregnancy?
i see lots of women taking berberine for PCOS support and to try to conceive, but berberine and goldenseal are on the no no list for early pregnancy (jaundice and brain damage risk) so why is it ok for them to take this if they could be taking it in early pregnancy but not know they're pregnant yet? 1000-2000mg is the dose i see lots of women taking.
one medical review said 1000mg a day had no effect on baby or mom, but i believe that was on rats. ???

Hey fellow nannies! TL:DR: I gave notice to my disrespectful employers a couple days ago and I wish i had been able to talk to their previous nanny bc I'm sure she would have let me know to stay far away from them from the beginning!
I have 15 years of experience, I was hired for this experience, ive only been with them since mid-april. They have cameras but work outside the home, i thought nbd with cameras (even though it's not ideal) I'll just be glad not to have a wfh situation, again....but from the first day, they have been condescending and disrespectful and treat me like I'm untrustworthy even though ive gone above and beyond to show I'm trustworthy including doing the fingerprint verification with the fbi! They apparently think I'm an idiot; they've given me 'instructions' on things like what fussing is, why a baby would cry (seriously??) when to feed solids, how to feed them, how to peal a carrot--as if I haven't done this for 15 years?? as if I haven't made babyfood before when they specifically asked me about that and hired me because of that! This all comes to me via emails that are so long, rambling and repetitive you would have to see it to believe it. They look like psychosis, honestly.
The constant undermining of my intelligence and experience is something I can shrug off bc whatever, i know my worth and the hours were ideal for me, but this incident was the last straw for me....
They asked me to come in and babysit on my day off which I didn't want to do but graciously agreed to. When I babysit I'm a little more laid back than when I nanny. I'm not necessarily doing all the cleaning and laundry, etc. (oh yeah "baby related" cleaning turned into "spotless kitchen" at the end of the day. I put my foot down on doing their laundry bc I'm not touching their underwear.) That day I unfortunately spilled a cup of chamomile tea, I cleaned it up but it was still damp when I left. It happens so I forgot about it and moved on with my life. I had some trouble getting the LO to sleep as he's experiencing g a little bit of 4 month regression. I finally managed by turning on some soft lullabies and vibrating his mattress a bit till he zoned out and fell asleep.
I got an email the next day giving me 30 days notice to void the contract bc they felt me not holding him and Rocking him to sleep vs. Bouncing the mattress was "neglect" (excuse me??) They said "music is overstimulating for him" (staight up instrumental.lullabies are more stimulating that holding and Rocking his entire body?? What?) They also told me that they believe since I "withhled" spilling tea that I must be withholding bigger things, too. That's fucking bonkers!!
I called her up and we talked it out and she apologized for jumping to horrendous conclusions over nothing but (I had a few days off) after a lot of thought and talking to a lot of friends and family (2 of whom told me to quit right away without giving notcie at all!) I realized this is not a one off event this is going to be a pattern of behavior. This was confirmed when I got yet another novel length email from them ensuring me they don't believe i.would hurt a child. The underlying implication of that statement is appalling and fucking repugnant to me). Claiming they love their nannies (bullshit, they've treated me.like a suspected criminal who is replaceable since day one)...this triggered me so much. I've been doing this for 15 years, i haven't had one child get hurt in my care, not even a scraped knee, I have ZERO complaints from former families. HOW DARE SHE?? For bouncing a baby and spilling tea?? I gave my notice.
Now they are looking for a new nanny and I wish I could warn them all. I'm not even their first nanny, this will their baby's THIRD NANNY! you guys he's not even 5 months! Talk about huge red flags! She told me she had "safety concerns" with their previous and when she brought it up to that nanny, the nanny told her off and walked out (making it out like the nanny was evil and shes the vicitm ofc). But I don't blame her and if i wasn't concerned about my professional reputation, i would have, too, justifiably. The former nanny probably just went to the bathroom or something equally benign!
Regardless, my goal during the notice period is to do an Excellent job (obviously that's what NK desrves) and to prove to them they made a huge mistake and maybe even get a reference out of them anyway... but the immature part of me wants to tell her off SO BAD. When I left yesterday the dad (who is clearly not the driver in this) said "we appreciate you so much, as always!" I couldn't even stop myself from giving him a side eye and just nodding. They have ZERO appreciation for any of my time, skills or experience and quite frankly barely seem to see as a human! They act like I'm some monster who would harm them if they didn't put cameras everywhere to stop me and also that I'm apparently so moronic that i must be told how to peal and steam a gd carrot. Nothing but disrespect from day one!
They are the fakest people I've ever met and I can't wait to be done with them. I just wish I could warn other nannies, too! Like I wish I could have talked to their previous nanny and gotten the low-down before I wasted a month of my time working for these assholes. Now I have to look again and some.other nanny is going to go through what I and the former nanny also went through. Poor thing!
It pisses me off that she could potentially write a review on care.com and cause harm to me, which I would not be able to defend, but I can't do the same and warn other nannies to stay away from her. I'm sick of how rigged the game is. I gave them my social security number so they could run a background check but I got almost no background information on them except what they manicured for me. Nannies should be able to get references about familes from their previous nannies! (I've actually done this for a wonderful family who was moving out of state!)
Ugh anyway....Their shittiness will not make me a lesser nanny!!!

Stewart said she was surprised that Jackson invited her and Ambrosius to a studio and asked for their input on the recording of the track. She recalled in an interview with LAUNCH magazine:

TLDR: how do I get the NDIS to appreciate that unless they give my friend (Mike's) child (John) core funding for daily support workers Mike is in great danger of snapping and harming himself and possibly John.
Long story: Mike has a 6 year old son named John. John is diagnosed ASD level 2/ PDA/SPD/ADHD, and has separation anxiety and extremely violent behavior's when in flight or fight mode. A major part of Johns disability is that he needs constant attention, entertainment and engagement in order to regulate otherwise he becomes violent towards Mike, other people, their pets and their rented property. As part of being PDA John needs complete control over Mike in order to feel safe, John also has a pervasive drive for autonomy that makes it extremely difficult for Mike to parent John traditionally. Mike practices low demand parenting but it is taking its toll. Mike is with John and regulating him 24/7 as John is unable to attend school, the school have requested that Mike homeschool since John has only been able to attend school for an hour so far this year. The level of care John needs is much more than what would be considered typical parenting. Mike is fast reaching burn out point and when John becomes violent towards Mike, or Mike has not had a moment to breathe for many many hours, Mike is increasingly seeing himself snap in his minds eye and can picture himself hurting John, Mike can also become very short and snappy with John. Mike is suicidal and has considered relinquishing John to the state and then ending his own life but he knows this is not in John's best interest. Mike Just wants what is best for John, John didn't ask to have a nervous system disability. If Mike was to place John in state care than this would traumatise John. Unfortunatly Mike does not have any other supports, his paetner works 60 hours a week, and when his partner is home things can often be worse, as Johns other parent is also autistic and John and the other parent butt heads. There are no other family members with the capicity to care for John.
John had an NDIS plan review in January, Mike begged and pleaded, and admitted to suicidal idealization in order to get some core funding for John. The LAC was sympathetic, but only managed to get 3 hours a week of support worker funding granted for John, and according to the freedom of information requests, John was lucky to get that. 3 hours a week doesn't even scratch the surface of the time Mike needs in a week to be able to regulate himself and fill his own cup. It is also important for John to have support workers so he is learning new skills with them and developing his independence. John is much less Demand Avoidant with people other than his family. John also deserves to have a regulated and at peace safe person in Mike.
Mike knows the answer to all this would be to get a work from home job and use the money from that to pay for a baby sitter,(since John won't let Mike actually leave the house even with a support worker present but will allow Mike to be in a different room) The issue though, is with Johns complex needs an average babysitter wouldn't be able to handle it for long, it needs to be a a support worker, and there is no way Mike can find a job that pays $50 an hour to cover the support workers. Johns Dads job keeps food on the table and a roof over their heads, but wont stretch to a daily support worker.
What else can Mike do to get additional support for himself and John? Is there a way to use some of the Daily living budget for additional support worker hours (although that won't last long either). Is there an advocate or someone Mike can turn to for advice? Mike is aware that he needs psychological help himself, but sadly he doesn't get the time away from John to engage in that help. Mike is also acutely aware of how careful he needs to be with who he tells what to, as he can not risk losing John.
I'm worried that Mike and John will become another statistic, another tragic story on the news where the family would still be with us had they just gotten the help they needed. Mike isn't asking for 24/7 support workers, just a few hours a day so Mike can tend to his own needs too.

What else can Mike do to get additional support for himself and John? Is there a way to use some of the Daily living budget for additional support worker hours (although that won't last long either). Is there an advocate or someone Mike can turn to for advice? Mike is aware that he needs psychological help himself, but sadly he doesn't get the time away from John to engage in that help. Mike is also acutely aware of how careful he needs to be with who he tells what to, as he can not risk losing John.
I'm worried that Mike and John will become another statistic, another tragic story on the news where the family would still be with us had they just gotten the help they needed. Mike isn't asking for 24/7 support workers, just a few hours a day so Mike can tend to his own needs too.

Part 1
All of these characters are things we see in both cartoons and reality TV shows. Spanky Ham is considered directly inspired by a cast member from The Real World: San Francisco called David Rainey, aka Puck, who was kicked out of the house for being so unruly, with moments like fighting with a guy who had AIDS over a jar of peanut butter. I know that it sounds like I made up that sentence, but that’s something that actually happened that contributed to him being kicked out of the house. He lives on in infamy as a pig who eats sausage and shits in a cantaloupe.
But to continue in this direction, the show is heavily inspired by “real” people from reality shows. I think the way David Rainey acts is real, since later interviews show him not changing one bit. But a lot of these people are, again, fitting an archetype. A cartoony archetype, if you will. Again, this is the irony of postmodernism where the style of content was changed and yet the way of handling characters remains the same.
It’s almost as if postmodernists don’t believe in their own skepticism and it’s just a pseudo-skeptical movement that still has to obey rules or something.
Modernist cartoons hold archetypes so that people can understand the symbolism, while postmodernist archetypes are used as a way to make it easier to reproduce the same content over and over again, and sell it over and over again. This mass production that causes reproduction is exactly what Drawn Together is making fun of by causing some of the worst characters out there to still relate to established archetypes by simply attaching to a role without the means of accomplishing the same goals. Superman is brave and is a hero through action. Captain Hero got his name by fucking a hero sandwitch. Both are aliens from another planet with super powers, but Captain Hero’s arch nemesis is called Scroto, who is an evil mastermind that tricks Hero into washing his dirty old man balls over and over again. Captain Hero isn’t actually a superhero by definition, just by identity and because he looks the part by appearance. Xandir isn’t really a video game character, he’s just meant to look like one, which also happens to make him look incredibly gay. Princess Clara acts like a princess, but not a Disney princess, even though she looks like a Disney one.
I guess we can say Spanky acts like a pig and looks like a pig, but more in how he is a pig as in a greedy, dirty, or unpleasant person.
The way postmodernism causes juxtaposition that works is by simply changing how things were in modernism and using some kind of word play or changing of meaning to cause a different result. It wouldn’t work if Princess Clara was a ball of light, and it wouldn’t work if Toot was a floating brown cloud of farts; even though these could be played on the names in a surreal way. Yes, Clara means bright and Toot is a word for fart, but these wouldn’t be related to a previous subject matter, which is where intertextuality kicks in to make the whole thing work.
Intertextuality is where one text works off of another text to create a different meaning. This is done through quotation, allusion, calque, plagiarism, translation, pastiche, or parody, or interconnections between similar or related works perceived by an audience. That might sound like a lot of jargon, but all that means is that stuff in postmodernism takes from something else during modernism or prior and works off of it so that the audience can relate to it. If I didn’t know of any of these cartoons and just saw a bunch of different characters in one house, I would think this is entirely stupid and random. But since I know about the history behind it all, and the show constantly reminds us that these are parodies with 4th wall breaks, we are able to see that there is a reason for the surreal nature.
Without intertextuality, the theme is reduced to nonsense. With intertextuality, the theme is… still nonsense but now we have an understanding as to what caused it to be made and what they’re referencing. Intertextuality is not exclusive to postmodernism, but the way postmodernism handles it causes this hyper reliance on intertextuality to have it be remotely relatable. This becomes a big problem for globalization because many people are unable to understand the references when they aren’t part of the culture or circle, which can create things to be very niche. That very thing is actually why so many people simply avoid video games, or video game based movies, or anime, or flash parodies about games or anime.
This is also the reason the skits from movie reviewers like everyone on Channel Awesome never really appeal to people, because there is so much requirement that’s put as a hurdle rather than a welcome mat. Jargon and special language is a big part of postmodernism because of the focus on personal interpretation. If the reader could easily understand the writer, the reader would know that the writer isn’t saying much, so the postmodernist writer relies on open interpretation to keep the work both vague and niche. In other words, the postmodernist is determined to keep out the plebs, the sheeple, and the fogeys. The people who don’t relate to the subject matter will show themselves out and there is no reason to try to appeal to everyone because the subject matter is designed to offend and reject.
There is something strange about the idea that they could combine cartoons with reality TV, because the main appeal of reality TV is to see a real person doing something. But to have a cartoon copy reality TV is almost like watching hentai: you get the same thing as the real thing, without having to look at actual humans, and there is more ability to fulfill fetishes you never knew you had. But I’m sure even the most aggressive hentai lovers can understand that it’s not for everyone and it’s an acquired taste. I’ve been trying to figure out who exactly watches cartoons and hentai, and after a 5 minute search, I realized that cartoons need a lot of dedication to art to be appreciated after the age of 13. But then there is also this thing with reality TV where nudity is almost a requirement. There are dating shows like Flavor of Love that has every chick whore themselves out so they can date a guy that looks like that Uruk-hai that Aragon beheaded. They’ll have them hang out at pools and do sexy dances, they’ll be jerking each other off in the shower, and then we’re supposed to care about who the guy choses at the end of an episode. It’s like Hell’s Kitchen but if people tried to stay in the game by unzipping his dungarees and giving his London broil a good shellacking.
I feel like Drawn Together wanted to do this, but couldn’t really afford to remove contestants every episode like Total Drama Island, so they decided to transition the plot structure to more typical sitcom fashion. We get episodes like where the cast turns into babies and do the same disgusting behavior but as babies. We get episodes where Toot has to go back to fat camp to do a reunion dance and tricks Zandir into joining her by finding cheat codes to control him. There are Transformers parodies, care bears, cabbage patch, Nesquik, Uncle Ben, there’s an episode where survivor is played with, there’s Fat Albert and Archie comic types of characters.
The show is a perfect breeding ground for making fun of basically anything drawn, which is crazy to think about because that should bring about Family Guy level of survivability. Just make fun of a cartoon and the episode is done. But, sadly, it was canceled after 2 seasons and didn’t get a chance to really spread its wings. It was deemed too offensive to continue. Advertisers and morality groups rejected it, caused it to lack profitability, and the network threw it in the trash. If the show survived to this decade, it would be canceled anyway.
Strangely, the show is so postmodernist in how it doesn’t care about anything that it can’t survive in the current postmodernist era of being hyper offended. Because postmodernism relies on subjectivity, companies can now subjectively be offended at anything, even though these companies are more than happy to pretend they stand for the LGBT or even women entering porno. There is stuff that should cancel these advertisers and morality groups, yet they are the ones doing the canceling. This is why I call the show a martyr.
It died for the freedom of being able to offend and all that happened is that the network it was on went more woke and the online environment makes it so that it can’t really be talked about. But somehow, paramount plus happily tries to advertise it. This is the company that owns nickelodeon and created that new Transformers show where the robot and a female human call themselves non-binary. This is the company that made a Blue’s Clues episode that features a drag queen singing about a pride parade. If anything, the show is only promoted on the streaming site because they want to make money from their enemies.
It just doesn’t make sense to me that a company will get more offended and advocate harder for the woke, but then happily promote one of the most offensive cartoons out there. That is, unless there’s money involved. So at the end of this long dive into Drawn Together, without talking much about what exactly happens in the show, we can conclude that the show died for our sins… just to be used by a company as a means of making money from their enemies. They wouldn’t dare make another show like it, because that would be against the woke agenda, which is weird since the show already features black and gay people.

Apparently, the only adult cartoons left are ones that rely on hyper violence and random netflix stuff like Big Mouth, which tries to desperately retain the postmodernist legacy without entering the woke territory. I don’t remember much from that show, but I’m pretty sure it failed. Now we have people begging for postmodernism because anything is better than the slop coming out these days.
Do I think Drawn Together is a good show? Absolutely.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely.

I am just glad something like F is for Family was made before things got too crazy. Animated characters being sexual and disturbing is funny. Animated characters trying to be funny with their sexuality is disturbing. The woke will do everything in their power to say these are the same thing. They will beg you to believe them when they pretend to be postmodernist, because in a way they are. But always remember that the woke can’t be fully postmodernist in how they pretend to be, because they are forced to care and establish moral demands from others.

It creates this personal language that causes people to speak past each other and never even try to relate with each other, adding jargon on top of jargon. It’s too alienating, with the woke becoming increasingly divisive as time goes on, and as their agenda gets more rabid. We can’t enjoy a simple kid’s show without seeing their agenda in full force, because the animation department decided to get a bunch of diversity hires. I mean, who else is going to be in their room drawing pictures over and over again for months on end?
I am just glad something like F is for Family was made before things got too crazy. Something as simple as a more hardcore version of King of the Hill is a breath of fresh air, and it has Drawn Together to thank for paving the way for that type of humor. Animated characters being sexual and disturbing is funny. Animated characters trying to be funny with their sexuality is disturbing. The woke will do everything in their power to say these are the same thing. They will beg you to believe them when they pretend to be postmodernist, because in a way they are. But always remember that the woke can’t be fully postmodernist in how they pretend to be, because they are forced to care and establish moral demands from others.
Drawn Together had black characters follow stereotypes, gay characters die a million times over, and all of the women are openly slimeballs. I feel like the show perfectly encapsulated how the woke would make media, but without it being tongue in cheek or satire. I’ve honestly had trouble finding a likeable character from all of these woke shows coming out, but I’m sure I would like it if the show made it known that these were parodies of something else. But by the end of it all, I think the best thing to do is to cherish Drawn Together for its sacrifice and hope that someday a media renaissance brings us another show like it.
That or for my satire of postmodernism to take off. That would be freakin’ sweet.

I graduated from a 12-month BSN program last September, but I found out I was pregnant when we had about 2 months of school left. After graduation, I decided to take advantage of the time off and wait until after the baby to get my first job. Now that the baby is here, I started applying and was able to land a new grad program position in an ED. I know they say new grads know nothing going into their first job, but I actually felt like I knew stuff at the end of school. But now that it's been 10 months since we graduated, I feel like I know diddly. I passed the NCLEX in November and then did a serious brain dump. I'm wondering if I should be reviewing anything before I start this job (important lab values, concepts, etc.) And if yes, what might be especially important in the ED setting? TIA!

Since Mandy still had not turned up and most everyone else in the house had things to do, Paul decided little Dan could spend the rest of the morning, at least, with him. He got himself and the child properly dressed, then opted to tuck the lad into his own oversized coat as they stepped out into the blustery air.
"You can't walk much yet, eh?" Paul said.
"Haaa," Danny intimated.
"Well, I can haul you about. 'Sides, even if you could walk, you've no shoes."
They set off down the street, Paul humming to himself as he usually did. The baby's downy hair tickled under the shelf of his chin, and it almost made him laugh.
This was going to be an odd day.
At the corner, Betty and Joey from down the street were about to cross. Betty had her big shopping basket; they had paused so she could redo the buttons on Joey's jacket.
"Pree baby," Joey slurred as Paul stopped beside them, and his free hand fluttered upward for a moment before he looked worriedly to Betty.
"C'n I? C'n?"
"He's wondering if he could pat Danny's hair," Betty translated.
"Oh," Paul nodded. "Sure, I guess."
Joey's fingers gently played with the faint strands for a moment, and then Joey grinned.
"M'pal," he said, and pointed to Danny.
"You got duty today, hmm?" Betty murmured, trying to strike up conversation.
Paul nodded again.
"Yup. Mandy wasn't back yet, and everyone was busy, so..."
"Got a day off or that?"
"Sure," Paul said, and laughed weakly.
Betty and Joey headed on then, and Paul waved to them, then checked that he had Danny securely settled.
It was a little embarrassing to know he was one of the few on the street that had no proper job or other productive way to pass time. Mostly he walked around the city, window shopping and reading newspapers or magazines. Sometimes he went to a library and read up on things needed around the squat, like repairs. At least then he felt he was doing something.
Today, he figured, would be mostly a going-inside-places day. Probably he could have just stayed in the house, but that always made him feel half-mad. Still, with the baby along, it would make sense not to stay out in the cold too much. Poor little guy might freeze.
Still, they walked a long way before Paul decided to stop in at that silly little music shop, Muztara. That place was always a little too warm, but there were spots to sit, and the owners always had free tea and cake for customers.
The door of the shop had a whole little rig of tiny brass bells that it rang when opened; Danny seemed to like that. At least he laughed and made a repetitive little "Shhhiii, shiiii" noise for a bit after. The slouchy guy behind the till looked up and waved.
"Hey, Paul."
"Hey."
As Paul was moving toward the tea urn, the guy moved generally that direction as well, slotting some LPs into a bin.
"You got a kid now?" he asked.
"Uhm," Paul said, filling a styrene cup and settling himself on a bench.
"We got milk, if ya want. For the kid."
"Ah? Tha'd be great. Ta."
Unfastening his coat, Paul eased Danny out and plumped the kid down on the bench at his side.
"How old's he?" the slouchy guy asked, reappearing from some back room with the milk.
"Uh, just a year."
"Cool. 'S'name?"
"Daniel. Danny, mostly."
"Nice. Here ya go then, Danny."
The guy had poured some milk into a funny little plastic teacup, and he handed it carefully to the baby, who very seriously accepted it and then stared at it, confused. Shaking his head and smiling, Paul set his tea aside for a moment to help the little lad drink.
"He's not s' good with cups just yet."
"Ah. Figures, as he's s' young."
There were a lot of biscuits and cakes laid out near the tea urn in boxes, and now Danny was craning his head around to look at them.
"Bikit?" he asked.
"Okay, little guy. One biscuit."
Paul chose soft rather than something crunchy, figuring that was best for little teeth. Danny seemed happy either way, shoving his milk cup into Paul's hands so he could concentrate on the sweet.
They sat a long time there. Now and then other people entered the shop. A few commented on Danny, mostly saying he was real cute. Paul felt proud whenever they did, since they also mostly seemed to think he was the baby's dad. It was flattering, sort of.
Eventually, Danny got fussy, rubbing his eyes and leaning against Paul's arm, whining. Probably he was tired. Paul stood slowly, stretching, then picked Danny up and tucked him back into the coat, fastening it carefully.
"Headed back out?" the slouchy guy yawned.
"Mm-hmm."
"Have a good day."
Danny seemed happier once they were back on the street, burrowing his head against Paul's jumper and ceasing his whining. Paul decided a library might be all right next. It would be nice and quiet. Little guy might sleep a bit.
Sure enough, by the time they reached the intended destination, Danny was well asleep, drooling just slightly. No big deal.
For the hour and a half that Danny slept, Paul read mostly about gardening. At the squats, everyone sort of worked together to grow a bit of food in the back gardens to save money, and he had some ideas for new vegetable beds they could try in a few months. Nothing in the books seemed to indicate his ideas were insane; very good.
Once Danny was waking up, a little blinky and confused, Paul reshelved his books and they took off again.
"Wanna go to the park, Dan?" Paul asked.
"Parg? Parg."
So to a park they went. Danny toddled about in the grass, stopping here and there to sit or crouch and stare at some fascinating pebble or such. Paul followed him, making sure he did not swallow rocks or something. Presently, the kid stopped and, looking focused, stood very still a while, grunting. Then he looked up to Paul.
"Help," he said.
"What, little guy? What help?"
Kneeling, Paul instantly caught a whiff of what needed help.
"Ah, no. Jeez. Come on, Dan. We oughta head home."

"You can't walk much yet, eh?" Paul said.
"Haaa," Danny intimated.
"Well, I can haul you about. 'Sides, even if you could walk, you've no shoes."
They set off down the street, Paul humming to himself as he usually did. The baby's downy hair tickled under the shelf of his chin, and it almost made him laugh.
This was going to be an odd day.
At the corner, Betty and Joey from down the street were about to cross. Betty had her big shopping basket; they had paused so she could redo the buttons on Joey's jacket.
"Pree baby," Joey slurred as Paul stopped beside them, and his free hand fluttered upward for a moment before he looked worriedly to Betty.
"C'n I? C'n?"
"He's wondering if he could pat Danny's hair," Betty translated.
"Oh," Paul nodded. "Sure, I guess."
Joey's fingers gently played with the faint strands for a moment, and then Joey grinned.
"M'pal," he said, and pointed to Danny.
"You got duty today, hmm?" Betty murmured, trying to strike up conversation.
Paul nodded again.
"Yup. Mandy wasn't back yet, and everyone was busy, so..."
"Got a day off or that?"
"Sure," Paul said, and laughed weakly.
Betty and Joey headed on then, and Paul waved to them, then checked that he had Danny securely settled.
It was a little embarrassing to know he was one of the few on the street that had no proper job or other productive way to pass time. Mostly he walked around the city, window shopping and reading newspapers or magazines. Sometimes he went to a library and read up on things needed around the squat, like repairs. At least then he felt he was doing something.
Today, he figured, would be mostly a going-inside-places day. Probably he could have just stayed in the house, but that always made him feel half-mad. Still, with the baby along, it would make sense not to stay out in the cold too much. Poor little guy might freeze.
Still, they walked a long way before Paul decided to stop in at that silly little music shop, Muztara. That place was always a little too warm, but there were spots to sit, and the owners always had free tea and cake for customers.

I'm 41 and going back to school taking online classes through WGU. I have to pass this stupid Statistics course, and I hate it. I find myself getting super angry while doing exercises and answering wrong not because I don't know the concepts being taught, but because math questions, generally, seem to be designed to trick you instead of actually testing your knowledge of a thing. The concepts and formulas are pretty easy to pick up and memorize. It's just that practice questions will be worded weirdly, numbers won't be in any sort of correct order, or-worse-they'll be in MOSTLY correct order so you assume they're correct and end up getting a question wrong even though you applied concepts correctly because some question designer decided to trick you with some random detail buried somewhere you missed.
That doesn't help anyone learn anything at all! Like, sure, in the real world numbers will be thrown at you randomly and you have to make sense of that. But in a classroom setting there should be some level of trust involved that you're going to actually be taught a thing and not handed a freaking level 10 Hanayama puzzle with every question. And, yeah, I know Hanayama puzzles only go up to level 6, but that's my freaking point! Even those little torture devices are easier than trying to decode whatever the sadist who designed questions is trying to get at.
And on top of that, if you miss too many questions and have to do extra review, the concepts that you already know are broken down in freaking baby talk like you're wearing a wet diaper and have a lollipop stuck in your hair. It's not like you don't understand how to do the thing. You're doing the thing the way the thing is supposed to be done. The questions are just laid out purposefully confusingly so that whoever designed them can just... sit back and laugh at you, I guess?
I hate it. I hate, hate, hate, hate it. I get so freaking angry with every wrong answer. I have to pass this class, but this is a real struggle. I have zero idea of how I'm gonna get through this. Any advice here would be welcome. I know this is an ADHD thing for me. I know that things like missing key details is tied into that. I know that I'm having outsized emotional reactions to this. I just don't know how to get a handle on that long enough to put this class behind me.

She never answered those messages and even unfriended me on Facebook so to see her so happy to see me was confusing. However I quickly knew why. She told me Desiree is pregnant again and you are both expecting another girl. I knew months before your mom told me. The news stung but I don't think it hurt enough to really do anything to me. I don't know maybe she's just exited to be a grandma again even though she's raising you and Desiree's child.
