Read the patchnotes on the game's website: https://thecycle.game/news-and-media/the-cycle-frontier-patch-3-0-0
Greetings, Prospectors!
Community Team here! We know that you folks have been waiting to dive into the full patch notes for Season 3 for quite a while now, especially with all that we've been teasing the past couple of months. Well, that wait is finally over, as the new season for The Cycle: Frontier begins today, along with a bunch of new features and changes.
Before we jump in, we'd like to take a moment to thank the people who played during Season 2. 182 days is admittedly a pretty long season, but we're super grateful for all of your support, positive messages and, most importantly, your constructive feedback. While this patch will include a large variety of updates and adjustments, this is only the first of many patches that we hope to put out throughout this new season. Let's dive into these notes, we've got a lot to unpack here!

You heard it here first, the final wipe is here! Players will start Season 3 completely fresh and on an even playing field. Kiss your Brute stash goodbye and put Season 2 behind you, because Season 3 will be taking you back to the start of the campaign where your prospecting journey began - except you now have all the knowledge of a seasoned, hardened Prospector to carry you. This, however, will be the last of these so-called mandatory wipes we have planned. Our game has been completely overhauled for a permanent progression system, and we will (after this wipe) no longer be forcing you to reset your progress within the game. You will of course keep any Aurum and earned cosmetics associated with your account. Welcome Packs that were previously purchased will also be regranted to you upon logging in for the first time after this last wipe. As a result of this new era, we've updated our in-game texts and descriptions to reflect this change. We could talk about what happened to the Storm Divers, why all of those flyers have mysteriously disappeared, or why the storm has suddenly gone back to normal. But the work of a Prospector is never done and that's a conversation for when you're older. Now get out there, veteran greenhorn, and earn your K-Marks!

Free Loadout Runs are coming! If you've found yourself low on K-Marks or maybe you're just starting out and learning the ways of Prospecting, consider grabbing a Free Loadout Run provided by the various factions. On the Deploy menu screens, players will now be met with an option to select your Prospector's Loadout of gear equipped from your stash or select a free randomized loadout put together by one of the factions. If a player has no gear equipped from their own stash, the free loadout option will be selected by default. If you have a loadout already selected from your stash, your prospector loadout will be selected by default. Note that if you choose to take the free gear, any previously equipped gear will be transferred to your stash, assuming there is room for everything. There is a cooldown on how often you can use a free loadout since it takes some time for the factions to put together what they're willing to give you. A timer will be visible on the loadout selection screen to let you know how long you'll have to wait before another loadout becomes up for grabs. Once selected, these loadouts will function the same as the normal loadouts you're used to. Take the gear down to Fortuna III and, if you survive, it's yours to keep. If you don't make it back without needing to be defoamed, that gear belongs to whomever is able to bring it back to the station.
Each faction should provide Prospectors with at least a weapon, armor, backpack, ammo, and health consumables with a chance for extra goodies to be thrown in by way of a 2nd weapon, weapon attachments, additional consumables, crafting mats, keycards, or helmets. Those greedy factions won't be too eager to give away anything too useful however, so these loadouts will more often than not contain white gear with much smaller chances of getting green or blue items for free. These loadouts may not turn your trips to Fortuna III into a walk in the park, but they should give you an extra boost if you're down bad or don't want to risk losing your hard-earned gear while learning the basics.

This is a long requested feature and we are happy to finally give players a way to equip everything they need for their planet-side ventures with one click. You can customize your preset loadouts with your favorite or most-used gear in the stash section of your inventory. When selecting a preset loadout to equip, any weapons, armor, helmets, ammo or other consumable items will be equipped directly from your stash. Any items that are not your stash will be purchased from the appropriate faction HQ automatically, with a popup asking you to confirm said purchase. New descriptions and UI sections have been added to properly teach you how to assemble and equip a preset loadout. When viewing a preset loadout before equipping, icons will display which items are currently available from a player's inventory, which items need to be purchased, and which items are unavailable. Use this feature to quickly get back into the action between runs and spend less time running between the faction shops to pickup the gear you need to achieve prospecting glory.

The Howler is a flying insect-like monster that has emerged on the surface. This large and in-charge addition to the game aims to generate new drama and new player stories by overlapping with other events and happenings in the game. As part of our direction to create a game that is as suspenseful as it is fun, we hope that the Howler will add a new layer to the game in a variety of ways. The Howler is our first roaming creature, traveling through the skies from place to place. When it's idle, you can try to sneak past it or remain motionless, in the hopes that it won't hear you. However, once it's ready for fisticuffs, you'll experience a new type of PvE challenge that we'd like to say is somewhere between the Marauder and the Crusher in terms of difficulty. But we wouldn't quite call it a boss encounter either. One thing we know for sure, is that you won't have a hard time finding it, as you should see and hear it coming with relative ease.
In addition to the Howler, a new in-match activity has made its way to you: the Howler Nests. These nests contain Howler eggs that react to sound by simply exploding and expelling a toxic fume into the air that you'll want to steer clear from. However, if you're quiet and patient, there might just be something worth bragging about inside some of those eggs, assuming you can get your hands in there and survive to tell the tale. We hope that this new organic and reactive element will offer new ways to traverse areas of all three maps that were once free of... whatever those things are made of.
To top it off, both the Howler and Howler eggs will drop unique items that can be used to complete new quest missions, upgrade your player quarters, and craft new items. As a result, you'll be able to create your own Howler Grenades, new throwing weapons aiming to recreate the Howler's signature move: its disorienting shriek. They affect both Prospectors and wild creatures, and we can't wait to see how you put them to use. Sure, we could have just introduced basic flashbangs into the game, but where's the fun in that eh?
The Howler will also come with it's own brand new questline that you will be able to complete with Osiris, are you sure you'll know how to use that?
Consider rallying other Prospectors on the surface if you're trying to take down a Howler in the early stages of the game. If you can put your hunger for gear aside, you and your new teammates might be able to take it down before anyone else. Although considering the usual human greed, we can't promise everyone will remain friendly after the Howler loot has dropped.

As with every update, Season 3 comes with plenty of backend improvements to our anti-cheat detections and preventions, some big and some small, to help make cheating even more difficult than it already is. For the sake of security we can't go into exact details here, but these changes include better methods of automatically detecting cheats, better tracking tools for our support team to investigate suspicious players, and more obfuscation measures to make the actual development of cheats more difficult. We have also worked closely with our friends at BattlEye to make sure that the game is in top-top shape for the release of the new season.
Since we know Season 3 will also have many players returning to the game, we will give a quick recap on some of the major improvements we've made to our anti-cheat systems since Season 1:
  • Shielded Matchmaking: Helps give our Trusted players an added layer of security, and makes the creation of alt-accounts much more difficult for cheaters.
  • Cheating Victim Compensation: Automatically compensates players who fell victim to a cheater once that cheater is banned.
  • Data Obfuscation: Makes the creation and development of cheats more difficult and time consuming.
  • A Dedicated Anti-Cheat Team: Closely monitors and quickly reacts to any new threats the game might face.
  • Third Party Tools: We have worked closely with anti-cheat specialists like BattlEye to add additional layers of security to the game.
  • Revamped in-game reports: Makes the process of sending reports much smoother, and gives our team more data to investigate cheaters.
  • And many more backend improvements to our anti-cheat systems...
If you'd like a more detailed look at how we're actively fighting cheaters in The Cycle: Frontier, please take a look at our blog post we made for The War on Cheats:https://thecycle.game/news-and-media/season-3-the-war-on-cheats
And finally here is a quick message from Toast, the Anti-Cheat Community Manager for The Cycle: Frontier:
Anti-cheat is a constant back and forth battle, one that we are committed to continue fighting in our game. Even though our anti-cheat is in a better state now than it's ever been, we aren't done yet. We are already hard at work on more improvements to the anti-cheat that we will be releasing in 3.1, 3.2, and beyond. The team has already made great strides in fighting cheaters since Season 1, and I truly believe that Season 3 will be the best state the game has ever been in. I am super excited for you all to experience a much more fair and competitive version of the game, and I can't wait to see you all on Fortuna III. Until next time, Prospectors. -Toast

Construction crews have been hard at work lately, giving our refuge floating above Fortuna III a facelift. On your next visit to Prospect Station, you will notice all the familiar hotspots have a brand new, if shadier, look. It's pretty likely that a hub for adventurous Prospectors more focused on surviving than sanitation won't be the cleanest place, but that doesn't mean we can't have some nice things. Take a stroll around the new storefronts and investigate all the new activity that will help give more life to the place we all call home. You will find new NPCs roaming about the station along with plenty of neat additions. Try not to get too distracted though, your main job is still Prospecting and surviving.

Removing mandatory wipes means we'll operate on an economy focused on the long term. Making adjustments to how the economy used to function was imperative. As a result, finding and obtaining exotic and legendary items will be much harder than before and early game can be adjusted to feel far less punishing to new players who are just finding their bearings on Fortuna III. We've overhauled many early game quests to feel less overwhelming (but still challenging), in addition to making late-game accomplishments feel much more rewarding. Players will have a chance, albeit a very small one, to find gear with a tier above the area they're in. Leave no stone unturned on the surface, as opening a weapon crate to find a Voltaic Brute, or checking a jacket to find a rare keycard should now feel like a true jackpot moment and get your heart pumping as you make your way to the evac ship. We do not want late-game players to have infinite access to the best gear in the game. Sure, unlocking something great should be a big milestone, but upkeeping high-level loadouts should be difficult, and bringing a full end-game loadout into a match should be a truly special occasion - this is what makes the infinite gear chase more thrilling. This required us to re-think how easily players can re-purchase gear that they have unlocked, and how often, as well as how deep our money sinks are running.
We've added additional ammo variants for different weapons that will increase in cost as you progress to higher tiers of weapons, which means you will have to be much more conscious of the risk versus reward of constantly running that Voltaic Brute if your goal is just to kill creatures at Greens Prospect. The new challenge for end-game players will be to maintain the ability to run the highest level gear when it makes the most sense to do so. Purchasing weapons from the factions will now also cost faction scrips in addition to their usual K-Mark costs, so completing jobs and quests for each faction will be more important than ever. The loot pool of items that can be found has been updated to encourage players to be more diligent when searching for goodies at various POIs to have that jackpot moment when finding a rare item.

The arsenal of weapons available at your disposal will be expanded to accomplish a few different goals. First and foremost, the new versions of the weapons will help cover some of the gaps we previously had in the weapon lineup with LMGs, launchers, SMGs, snipers, and shotguns. This means you will find more rarities of different weapon types to offer more choices of what you can use on your journeys to Fortuna III. This change also gives players an opportunity to use their favorite weapon skins more frequently on more weapons that sometimes became obsolete as you progressed to higher levels.
You will see two different variants of some guns in the form of MkI and MkII weapons. MkI weapons will be lower tier versions of current versions, while MkII weapons will be higher tier versions of their original counterparts. There will be some differences between MkI/MkII and their current versions in the form of damage or penetration values, types of attachments you can use on each weapon, and types of ammo that will be needed for different tiers.
This will also allow us to make the higher tier guns rarer without diluting the weapon pool too heavily, and still give players the 'jackpot' moment if/when you find a rarer gun from a weapon crate.

Along with the aforementioned economy tuning, some balance changes needed to be made to accommodate the non-wiping systems. The biggest change you might notice is how quickly armor durability will decrease when attacked by other players and/or creatures during fights. This will make prospectors think twice about engaging potential enemies while affecting decisions about what armor is worth the risk for their goals for each match. Don't forget to repair your armor between matches if you want to stay fully protected during runs. We've also tuned some weapons following the addition of the new MkI and MkII weapons, but there will be more details on that in a later section of the patch notes.
Meanwhile, Prospectors will now have more choices for their methods of destruction (or protection) while exploring Fortuna III. Starting capacity of each prospector's safe pocket has been increased from 5 to 9 to help with progression through some earlier questlines and player quarter upgrades have been adjusted to account for those changes. Creature behavior and health have received some tuning to make them a bit less of a pain to deal with in some cases. Standard variants of Striders and Rattlers had their total health reduced and shouldn't be as spongy to damage as previous iterations. The range at which creatures are able to see and hear prospectors has been adjusted slightly along with the amount of time it takes to de-aggro from a target. Be more aware of your surroundings as stealth and sneakiness will be much more important than it previously was if you want to stay undetected.
We have also made some other smaller balance changes as well. Mid-air accuracy has been reduced for most weapons to help make the combat feel a bit more grounded, many key crafting components have had their crafting timers reduced, and there have been changes across the board to loot drops and rewards to help facilitate the new economy. It's more changes than we can realistically list here, so we encourage you to drop down to Fortuna III and discover them all for yourself.

Matchmaking is a topic that is often discussed in Discord, Reddit, and Steam forums. More importantly, it's one that we are not oblivious to. During Season 2, we switched things up from using average evac value to using K/D ratio as the main factor for determining the MMR rating used to place players in different buckets. We found that while this was certainly a step in the right direction towards making matches fairer, there is still room for improvement to avoid brand new players who have a good run from being unfairly matched with more veteran players getting blasted by gear far beyond what they have access to. While matches in TC:F are meant to be somewhat uncertain, we definitely understand how frustrating it can be to constantly die due to an total imbalance of weaponry before you have a chance to react. To combat this, but still maintain some sense of tension and uncertainty about what you might encounter during any given drop to Fortuna III, we will be implementing a form of gear score in combination with K/D when determining a player's MMR calculations. This doesn't mean that you will only see players wearing the same gear as you in a match, as that limits the ability to have score big 'come ups', but it will help keep players more fairly matched and make it less likely that new players will be constantly overpowered while they are learning the ropes.
Another big topic of feedback we received regarding matchmaking is how difficult it is to regularly survive when outnumbered during encounters with other players on Fortuna III. With Season 3, you will now find the separation of buckets based on squad size that was originally implemented for Bright Sands during Season 2, now spread across all three maps. This means that no matter what your skill set or what map you choose you should only see other solos as a solo, duos as a duo, or trios as a trio in trusted matchmaking buckets.

We've made another pass on early missions in order to give new players a better overview of what to expect and the basics of life as a Prospector. This includes more detailed explanations of certain tasks and additional tips for features that should become useful when staying alive after gaining the trust of the factions and becoming a full blown prospector.
Returning players will no longer be required to complete the tutorial missions once they've been completed once. They will only appear when launching the game for the first time on a new account
  • During the first drop and tutorial, Prospectors will now hear gunshot sounds to get them accustomed to more of the sounds they should expect to hear during their time on Fortuna III
  • Popups and voiceover lines for early tasks should better inform users of what their goals should be
  • The flow of the early game has been finetuned to make the process run more smoothly as players progress through each task
  • Early game matchmaking has been significantly tuned to better ease new players into the game

Keycard rooms have been reworked across the board to give much juicier loot, but to compensate, keycards are now much rarer and have less uses. Now they will truly be "loot rooms", instead of "a few white stims and an AR-55" rooms. Keycard rooms should also feel more "themed," containing items that are more relative to the location of the rooms. We're very excited to see what you discover!

New Season, new Fortuna Pass! We've got 100 new tiers to grind through, complete with Prospector Archetypes, Banners, Weapon Skins, Sprays, Aurum, Resource Crates, and more! Fortuna pass is chock full of vanity like the last season. We still wanted to give you as many weapon skins as possible in addition to:
  • 2 main characters with 1 extra variation each
    • Harvester and his twin BloodFreak - they never get along well
    • Bloodhound and Rebel Reporter - both willing to take any risk to bring you the latest news!
  • 2 new emotes for color Fortuna even more
  • Three new Melee Weapons
  • An exclusive pickaxe skin
  • 14 weapon skins
  • Various sprays, charms, banners, and a drop pod
But that's not all!
  • Crates have been revised, we added some of the MK2 weapons and new ammo for you to test it out
  • XP rewards and bonuses were slightly tweaked
  • XP curve is now non-linear and later levels of the pass need a bit more XP than in season 2, but first 15 levels of the pass are not affected at all with this change

All prospectors will have a new customizable default base suit, chest piece, gloves, and boots that can be equipped from the character customization screen. Different from the previous seasons; you can now purchase/acquire single outfit pieces like base suits, chests, boots, and gloves. We will still have some of the outfit bundles available next to these new single (ready to mingle) pieces.
This season, we tried to be a little wilder to explore some different effects for almost all the cosmetic types. You'll see some see-through bellies running around with Unbound Synth, wicked melee, charms and weapons that look like they are taken right out of a Howler's gastric - or rather fun and progressive charms, melee weapons etc. We still would like to expand and improve on this! (you know what? if you press U - you can inspect those kick ass weapons, charms, and melee in match. All of our items have their rarity assigned! Get ready for some epic and exotics!
  • Unbound Synth: A prospector which is perfect for you! Our first less human, more android prospector with a few emotions (maybe none at all) and the strongest dedication
  • The Artillery: She will be joining the team very soon - after dealing with her internal reckoning
  • The Jungle Bandit: A sneaky one that thinks adding a couple of bushes makes him look visible - but in reality it just looks dashing! He'll be with us later in the season - still collecting some bushes to perfect it's outfit
  • Authority Operative: Without any communication with HQ, and without pay, even the Authority's commandos need to earn a living. Where better to put their skills to use than the planet's hellish surface?

The Fresh Fortunes Pack DLC will be available for free download starting at 7pm CEST on Thursday March 30, 2023 (10:00am PST / 1:00pm EST / 2:00pm GMT). Keep an eye out for dedicated publication with all details on the pack and how you can grab it!

Like last season, we have 3 special season bundles, each one complete with a collection of clean cosmetics up for grabs!
Are you a fierce Howler Tamer, or patrolling through Fortuna with your buddies to keep the planet in order? Or rather - you just want to shine, be the most colorful out there to show you have no fear that forces you to be subtle? You will be able to get these beauties through Steam and Epic store - as well as through in game Shop under the Bundles tab. We tried to give you the best selections for you to decide your statements in this season. As per usual, there are many new items specifically made for the new season, you cannot believe how much fun we had preparing all those sprays and banners for you! Also do not miss out from all the new melees, charms and emotes! Some of them will make you spit your drink out!

  • DLSS 3 has been implemented and will be available for those with compatible graphics processors
  • To make them a more exciting end-game challenge, Laser Drills will now be exclusive to Crescent Falls. They may return to Bright Sands again in the future with some balancing tweaks
  • The Crusher Caverns have had a massive overhaul, the caves will now be a significantly more difficult end game activity that will take team coordination and top end gear to survive
  • Prospectors will now take a short ride on the evac ship before fully extracting. Enjoy the beautiful panoramic views of Fortuna III before returning to the Station, but don't get shot
  • New grenade with the Howler shriek contained inside will be craft-able using Howler loot drops
  • Added a new weapon inspection feature with new animations to let prospectors check out their cool skins on weapons and melee sets
  • Players will now have a chance to find weapons with pre-loaded attachments while looting different areas. The rarity of these attachments will determine its chances of spawning
  • Attachments, consumables, and items all have clear numerical values about how they affect different mechanics
  • New and updated questlines
  • Prospectors will now have the ability to redeem promotion codes and coupons directly from the game to receive promotional items without going to their store launcher
  • Names and descriptions of armor and helmets are now more descriptive of their functions to better fit with the lore
  • Weapon description texts have been updated to include distances at which the gunshot sounds are audible
  • Some crafting recipes have been updated to require Howler loot drops
  • Tharis Island will not be accessible or unlockable by way of campaign missions immediately at the start of the season. As a result, crafting or player upgrades that require items only obtained on Tharis will be temporarily inaccessible until April 19th when the Island will be globally unlocked
  • A new keycard has been added to the lineup of keycards available
  • Possibly related to the new keycard, a new way to enter and exit the Forge has been added to Tharis Island. The door can be dangerous so proceed with caution
  • Keycard availability and durability received an update
  • Keycards cost has been updated to include a script cost when purchasable from the factions
  • Player Quarter upgrades received an update to include higher K-mark investment and new recipes for upgrade costs
  • Gear durability and repair costs have been changed to work better with a long-term economy in mind
  • New ammo varieties have been added to the loot pool with unique icon for each variety
  • Fortuna Pass rewards and icons have been updated for Season 3
  • Badum's First Drop and Welcome Packages have received an overhaul to make the experience as good as possible
  • A hard limit of 10 million K-marks have been added to cap the amount of K-marks a player can own at any given time
  • Our favorite barkeep, Badum, will now give Prospectors a unique questline with rewards after completing the FTUE missions which will be available on April 19th
  • Improved the prevention of players spawning next to each other to give Prospectors more breathing room when they drop onto Fortuna III

  • Fixed a bug where the speed penalty would persist after switching items from a charged heavy melee attack without performing the heavy melee attack
  • Removed an invisible collision barrier that prevented players from interacting with Osiris faction leader
  • Items will no longer visually duplicate themselves when sorting inventory or moving items from backpack to stash
  • Removed unintended access methods for areas above East Caverns on Bright Sands
  • Invisible post will not stop you from approaching the Fortuna Pass booth on the station
  • Adjusted the UI display to prevent overlapping of contract screens when multiple contracts are claimable
  • A very specific tree in Jungle had some faulty animations that have been resolved by our in-house horticulturist
  • Weapons, tools, and consumables will no longer vanish from your hands when swapping between grenades and other consumables
  • Players will now be able to successfully leave a party after removing a friend from friends list while in an active squad
  • Map updates and removal of several exploit spots across all 3 maps
  • Many, many more bug fixes but too many to list for the sake of saving space

  • In-game notification system has been revamped to better notify players of the most important events and actions while playing the game
  • Players can now sign up for our TCF email newsletter without leaving the game and see rewards before signing up
  • New key art has been added to the loading screen
  • New icons and UI images have been added for new in-game items
  • Discrepancies in vanity descriptions for various items in Windfall's Shop and Fortuna Pass have been unified
  • Mission images have been updated
  • Visibility of tool tip information has been improved
  • Weight and stack sizes for some items have been adjusted
  • New Emotes, sprays, character cosmetics and weapon skins will be available from the Fortuna Shop and Fortuna Pass rewards throughout the season
  • End of season widget has been updated in accordance with no longer having wipes each season
  • UI Tooltips have been adjusted
  • New icons have been added to the Feedback section of the menus
  • Added a UI element to clarify that player's are able to return to a map at any time once it has been unlocked

  • We are currently investigating an issue that causes some crashes when using NIVIDIA 40 series cards on the Epic Games Launcher. A fix will be pushed as soon as it is ready
  • Sometimes the Crusher Caverns can have issues spawning mobs (or spawn too many mobs), if you encounter this issue please reach out to a community manager with your prospect.log files
  • There are some cases where a player can get stuck on a Badum FTUE task. A simple restart of the game should resolve that but our team is working on a more permanent fix
  • Some of the emotes are not previewed correctly in various screens like Fortuna Pass, Special Offers etc. You can still fully see all the amazing moves and our little Leafling, Marauder etc in the station and in match but we will look into how to best preview them
  • Some of the new items with additional effects are missing an indicator on the icons to imply so. Once you go to the preview or see them in game - you'll be amazed (and we'll be fixing that little marker issue)
That's all for now, prospectors! Thank you all for your support and feedback over the previous 2 seasons, we hope that Season 3 will be fun, exciting, tense, and we cannot wait to see the stories you and your fellow Prospectors create when you drop back down to the surface.
Additionally, we're having a 48 hour livestream to celebrate the launch of Season 3. Stop by our Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/yager_development) and say hello!

2023.03.29 09:36 morgothiel Is there a way to go back in the story on autosave?

I left my xbox at my family's house because I was moving and didn't want it to be damaged in the process. Well, sibling apparently played on my safe file and now the game is on 40%. I think I was on around 20% when I left it so now I'm missing a good chunk of the game I paid 60 euros for. Is there a way to reverse this? Or do I need to restart the game entirely? There is only one save point as I was playing on autosave. I'm really fucking pissed and lost all excitement for the game now.

2023.03.29 09:15 suagrlesss Finished TBOSAS, a bit weary

I just finished the book, and wow, like I knew Snow was crazy and insane, but the ending? Just taking over Sejanus’s life pretty much, wow. I think I missed something while reading, because I’m a bit confused on why Snow ended up supporting and continuing on the games (yes cause he’s crazy and insane obviously but besides that) if he was so in love with Lucy Grey, you would think he wouldn’t continue the games? Did he want to follow in his fathers steps with the games? Did the heartbreak of Lucy Grey destroy him?

2023.03.29 09:11 CrimsonCloverwriter Chapter One : This must be the place

Hi everyone, this is the first chapter of my debut novel. For information and links to other chapters click the link down below :
Reddit - Dive into anything
The Great One sat on his throne, gazing longingly into the hearts of man. Something was coming and he could feel it. Destiny riding on a white steed, like the tales of man long ago, coming to uncover his secrets. He could see it all, the wall, the castle, and the so-called gods that built it all. The ego of these creatures was laughable, if only the Great One could still laugh. He could still speak sure, but only through means not of man’s common means. Vocal cords were a commodity long since lost in this place.
As the Great One observed the coming destiny he could feel the approaching storm, in a hail of flesh and blood, the only things that the Great One lacked. He would never give up, never retreat to these things as they approached, for this was the Great One. He looked back to the castle, viewing the scene in its entirety, and he felt something like happiness enter him.
Divinity. That is what connected the walls surrounding Dundis castle, not stone or metal, this was not a mere wall but a divine gift from ones above. Divinity sealed the wall, made it whole, the walls sealed together without mark or blemish, something no man could ever replicate. The wall had stood for a century, and would likely last ten more, there was no weakness, no flaw in design. 50 metres tall the wall was unscalable, unbreakable. No man could break the wall, it was the Vaunghe empire’s crowning gift, their wonder of the world. Those that were hired to clean the wall’s dirt and grime were heralded as the truly faithful, and all longed to help the gift of the gods. And yet despite this the Alizian’s watched, standing with armies around the great wall, waiting to breach its crust and destroy the core.
The Vaunghe had watched their foes throw everything they had, hundreds of men attacking the steel doors of the wall to no avail, an attempted archer attack quickly squashed by the wall's height. The Alizian military was strong, a blend of the Alizian warriors and Strolim blacksmiths made for a truly terrifying army. The army was so terrifying that the Vaunghe inside the castle doubted there were any more Vaunghe troops left, this was the end to a long battle between man and man. Even the soldiers left weren’t particularly important, just those lucky enough to guard the king and a few trainees. But the Vaunghe felt their luck running out.
The food supplies had run low, even if the nobles weren’t in the castle there was no chance of resupply. The few men who had eaten in the past few days stood alert, gazing down from the ramparts at the enemy. The soldiers knew they had to either surrender or fight, but the Vaunghe were passionate people, they could never leave behind their identity in favour of life. So the men waited, bows and arrows at the ready, for the next attack. Heavy items such as ingots and chairs lined the rampart, ready to be thrown off at a moments notice.
They had waited in this position for many cycles, and as day turned to night, and night turned to day the Vaunghe were exhausted, finished with whatever feeble attacks these barbarians had planned. They could throw whatever armies and arrows they wanted at the wall but it would remain unphased, forevermore. When the Alizian’s next attacked they would be met with the last strength of the Vaunghe, and it would be a story remembered for milenia by man and the gods.
As the morning sun rose over the wall, the enemy was revealed in all their glory. Even from so high above the Vaunghe could see the glint of silver from the Alizian military. The bright greens of the Alizian armour created a dazzling sensation that they were one with the grass, which blended in so perfectly with their clothes. They stood in their thousands, armed with whatever they could find, and even on the wall the men could see him.
The slaughterer, the murderer, the man, the myth and the legend Osmund stood alone on an overlooking hill. The fiend was well known by the Vaunghe, he was likely the greatest foe that had come from the opposing sides. Vaunghe generals often fled at his coming, or surrendered first, but rumour had it that Osmund gave no mercy. Overseeing his army to destroy everything that was left, the Vaunghe soldiers knew today really was the end. The figure on the hill moved closer to his army and screamed. The battle-cry of the Alizian’s shook fear into each of the Vaunghe atop the rampart, being so loud that it even reached so high.
The hundreds of troops began to move in sync, forming three individual groups of soldiers, with 10 metre spaces between each. Each contingent comprised six hundred men, easily dwarfing the 82 Vaunghe soldiers that were left. But the Vaunghe were not afraid, at least not afraid of a breach anytime soon. These walls were built to withstand any damage, no man could breakthrough one.
Between the troops was movement, indeed there seemed to be movement down all three rows of men in blue. The Strolime empire had finally revealed themselves, with their short stature and mental prowess the Strolime were gifted inventors not expected to appear on the battlefield. And yet here they were, almost one hundred of them hauling forth three large metallic objects. The sun bounced off of these objects into the Vaunghe’s eyes.
None of the men had ever seen objects like these, seemingly composed of pure metals and on wheels. Some thought they were a testament to the gods, some holy objects, others believed it to be some new invention from the Strolime, however none of them could say anything for certain as they were pushed closer and closer to the wall. The Strolomites stopped in their advance, approximately 20 metres away from the wall. The purpose of these objects had yet to dawn on the men, although one of the younger men on the rampart claimed he could see small objects poking through the metal, which was now aimed at a forty-five degree angle towards the wall.
As the Strolimites halted their advance many began to move away into the safety of the Alizian wall, likely afraid of any precautionary Vaunghe archers. One of them, a rather short and plump soldier, stayed with the object, placing a hand on it and turning to the wall. It was a fleeting moment, but for a second it seemed the man was gazing at the Vaunghe soldiers in shame. One last condemnation to the ones that began this war, before it would all come crashing down. But then the moment passed, and the short man moved as the rest did, doing a slight zig zag to avoid arrows.
And now, just as quickly they had come, the Strolomite’s were gone in the ranks of the Alizians, still waiting in their groups for something, and then they came. Three figures, two women and a man, moved between the lines just as the Strolimites before them. These three wore no armour, only the greens of Alizia upon their tunics. They stood beside the objects and began to reach their arms into the underside of it. Before the Vaunghe’s eyes the objects began to turn slightly, aiming even more directly at the wall.
One of the Vaunghe had enough of this display, and raised his bow. There were low winds on this day, and he was a good enough shot to reach at least one of the Alizian soldiers. He aimed his bow, finger on the drawstring, and released. It is likely that this arrow would’ve drawn first blood in this battle, however the arrow never reached its target.
In the split second before the release of the bow, the Vaunghe noticed the smoke billowing out of the bottom of the devices, the flames that shot out, and finally they noticed for not even a fraction of a second the object that shot out of the metallic thing, something white and red that hit the wall in an instant.
The wall shook, and the following barrage of these objects shattered any notion of divinity. Crashing and crumbling the rampart was launched, sending soldiers flying everywhere. The Vaunghe beside the wall were subject to the falling rubble, both the crumbling stone of the walls and the miscellaneous objects they had left upon the wall. All of the objects crushed the few Vaunghe left, save for the few sickly starving soldiers left inside the castle’s inner walls.
Down went the walls, such a harsh strike against the wall that nothing stood in the path of this monster. The roaring splattered through the castle, the screams of the falling wall waking the King himself from his slumber. Such a vast creation had fallen in seconds before the might of the Alizian’s, and now there was nothing left but to watch the battle unfold.
Smoke flooded the inner walls of the castle, casting the few remaining into fits of coughing and blindness. The walls finished their crumbling, and yet the roars didn’t stop. These were not the roars of the wall but the war cries of the soldiers outside, and they began to get louder, echoing through the walls of Dundis and into the ears of the weak nobles and soldiers.
Through the smoke they came, weapons raised and charging the weak. The few that tried to fight were slaughtered, cut down by a sea of green soldiers. Those that were choking, sputtering or raising their hands in defeat were spared, hauled through the hordes and into one of the stables facing the inner wall. They were to be tried and jailed, for no human regardless of their crime should be killed. It is simply not the Alizian way.
Out of the one hundred and fifty two people who were in Dundis, forty two had died in the wall’s destruction, and a further eleven were detained by the Alizian military. There was nothing that the Vaunghe could do, save for locking their doors, shield themselves and hold out for as long as possible. The Vaunghe forces built barricades in their castle, locking away the Alizian combatants for as long as possible. And during all of this Osmund waited. Waiting for his time to end this war, this travesty of battle that had gone on for too long, and that time finally came.
* * * *
Osmund stood alone atop the hill, and watched the madness unfold. The walls crumbled at the face of these weapons with no more effort than a straw house, and the plumes of smoke assaulted his men, although not to the extent of the inner wall. After a few moments of sputtering and choking the men cheered, for this was the moment that they had been waiting for, the end of such a long war now in the Alizian’s favour.
The Vaunghe capital was in shambles, their military long crushed underneath Osmund’s almighty power, and all that was left was the King. Hiding behind his walls as if he didn’t deserve this loss, this final failure in his life. Osmund was willing to spare as many people as he could, it was the Alizian code, but there would be no mercy for the King. This wasn’t one final battle between two great armies, that conflict happened weeks ago, this was the last breaths of a psychotic monarch being silenced amongst the last of his troops.
Osmund gazed longingly at Dundis, the ruined walls and advancing soldiers and doubted. He felt something was off, something was very wrong with all of this. His heart began to thump, as Osmund’s eyes turned every way to understand what was wrong, what abnormality was here. It grew and grew, Osmund began to shake at what was about to happen, nothing was right here Osmund should be somewhere else helping someone, there’s something wrong here something very-
Peace. Osmund’s heart stopped thumping, body stopping its perpetual shaking. He looked again to the marching troops, now almost entirely inside the walls, and looked back to his back, and the reserve Strolomites that now stood. They were cheering, marvelling at the success of the assault, and how the god’s gift had saved so much effort on their part.
Such strange creations composed of metal and flame, Osmund marvelled at the power the gods possessed. These devices were so unique in design Osmund doubted if any army could defeat them. The large red tubes they released could easily destroy an entire village by itself, but with one hundred of them an entire valley could be bathed in flames. Something truly abnormal in this world, something so parallel to the code of battle that no army would ever think of it.
The Vaunghe were once considered to be the greatest fighters, with the tournaments they created bringing forth the greatest warriors from throughout the land. Their dedication and power were unmatched in ferocity and violence, some called the Vaunghe the standing due to their unmatched will to always get back up. Osmund recalled his days in the tournaments, those peaceful days when he was not yet a hero to people, but a simple military man. He was still only Osmu back then, and yet even those of the time knew he would be something special. As Christoff used to say, ‘Ozzie you’re going places, big ones’. Osmund missed Christoff, It had been so long since their last meeting, and all Osmund wanted was to meet again one last time.
Osmund’s assistant came to him, a younger Strolomite by the name of Gizmu. Gizmu was rather muscular for a Strolomite, a strong figure contrasting his associates' plumper bodies, and stature was fairly tall for one of his people at 6’5 ft tall. Hazel hair protruded through a blue helmet, and for the first time Osmund considered what his assistant could look like. Gizmu was one of the many Strolomite’s who refused to show their face until military success, a tradition that Osmund respected. He had no doubt that Gizmu's true face would one day be revealed to him, as the man possessed genuine prowess in the fields of agriculture, something sorely missed in the modern military.
“Osmund, your team is preparing now, they’ll come soon. I advise you to prepare your armour sir, as it won’t be long before you’re sent in.” Osmund sensed mild concern in Gizmu’s voice, but didn’t pursue it.
“Thank you Gizmu, my friend. I’ll begin my preparations, tell the guests to meet me here when they are fully prepared. And do ensure they understand that there is still risk of injury on this mission, ensure each of them wears their armour.” Osmund’s voice was deep and echoed his long life, commanding a sense of authority amongst all Alizian forces.
Osmund left the hill, passing the cheering Strolomite’s and the peasant farmers who supported the army, and entered the rows of tents. They stretched out on either side, one for every four soldiers, until he reached his own tent. Entering Osmund was surprised to discover a fellow commander still asleep in his bed, snoring away peacefully.
Osmund removes his upper clothing, the clean tunic falling to the ground. While removing these clothes Osmund kicks the sleeping man in the leg, which doesn’t actually amount to anything rather than halting his snoring. Osmund kicks the sleeping soldier again, this time in the buttocks, which does a far better job of riling him. The man looks around wide-eyed, before settling onto the sight of the giant Osmund.
“Hey, why'd you kick me? I almost had a bleedin’ heart attack don’t you know not to meddle with a sleepin man?”
“Don’t you know that you were meant to be on the battlefield at the crack of dawn? I don’t know what kind of promotion you’re expecting when you aren’t even going on the battlefield. Do you really want to be Balmun forever?” Osmund spoke coldly, now reaching for his chestplate.
“Well no sir. But the thing is I actually have a very cunning plan, I thought of it all myself.” A smile falls upon the man’s face, whose head bears an uncanny resemblance to a potato.
“And what is that?” Osmund halted his preparations briefly.
“Well if I say I was there but didn't actually go, who’d think I wasn’t? I can just sleep through it all until the battle is won and no one would be the wiser.” Osmund puts a hand onto Balmun’s fleshy shoulder.
“A fine plan, if I wasn’t your commanding officer you buffoon. By the gods I believe some divine creator mistakenly put a turnip in your head instead of a brain because no noble’s son has ever been as frankly idiotic as you have. You’re coming with me to the battlefield, and I suggest you get dressed or you’ll be facing the last of the Vaunghe army with your flopping cock dancing for all to see.” Balmun stood and began to slip some clothes on, as Osmund completed his own set of armour.
Osmund’s armour bore the mark of a noble family, some rich fools who wanted their family crest to be associated with a bloody conflict and a dangerous murderer. Osmund wore it because of the armour’s quality, customfit to encompass Osmund’s 9’5 ft tall body, something no other armour was able to achieve. Osmund’s height was always an oddity, reaching far above the average 8ft heights of most Alizian’s, and making him one of the tallest figures in the lands. It was this height and his skin’s colour that earned him the name of the black death, which he wasn’t particularly fond of due to the mention of his skin. And even then Osmund certainly didn’t feel like a black death, whatever that was meant to be, rather he felt like death itself. Osmund was to be fifty years old by the end of the week, and it showed on his body. The hair that was left on his head was grey, and while still possessing an impressive form Osmund’s body was not in its prime, he was old.
Osmund looked at himself in the full body mirror, grabbing his longsword and leaving the tent, dragging a half dressed Balmun with him. Back through the tents they travelled, back past the now eager Strolomite’s and atop the hill where Osmund’s infiltration team stood. In any other battle Osmund would’ve despised the one that left this group with him, a collection of subpar and mediocre soldiers with all the military future of an Otter in a stew. But then again Osmund’s battle history did feature a lot of important people dying under his watch, so perhaps this was for the better.
The force began with Edmun, a cross between a prostitute and a noble who unfortunately takes more from the noble. An egotistical brat, as well as a greedy goblin of anything that isn’t bolted down, Osmund had borne the unfortunate duty of his company for months, since the initial assault on the capitol. The man could barely hold a weapon, save for slight skill with a flail of all things which he wore by his side. It was a gold plated flail as well, specifically made for beating in the heads of the poor Vaunghe soldiers stupid enough to get close. Blonde hair obscured blue eyes that spoke to his red-light mother, in fact for a noble’s son Edmun had all the appearance of an incestuous dullard. The man had survived by pure luck, and was the only casualty that Osmund wanted his side to suffer.
The Enick twins Humun and Eumun were up next, named after their family crest of the god of alcohol Enick. In contrast to Edmun these were a pair of real soldiers, Osmund had seen the fruits of their labour many times. They were great at the art of flanking, Humon’s greataxe paired alongside Eumun’s spears proved to be an unbeatable combination. The only issue that Osmund had with the pair was their… peculiar relationship. While the two were great fighters, whenever they were together anything else became impossible to comprehend. Osmund had once caught the pair attempting to seduce a goat wearing a knight’s helm, and while they were drunk there is still clear evidence of idiocy amongst them. The pair were identical in appearance, burly figures of 8’5ft, short cut black hair and overgrown beards stretching down their faces, however the distinguishing feature between the two was Eumon’s cleft lip, which gave his speech a lisp.
Josmu was far more a scholar than a soldier, although Osmund enjoyed his presence greatly. Since they first met the pair had hit it off, often discussing each other’s lives in Alizian taverns across the kingdom. A gifted archer, Josmu was the son of two aspiring poets and enlisted into the military voluntarily to assist in the war efforts. Osmund had a great deal of respect for the man, and hoped that the two would one day have a drink together, and ruminate on the past once more.
And then there was Jumun, a gifted soldier and one of the few Osmund thought could take him in his prime. Long strands of red hair ran down her rough face, a pointed nose and peculiar eyebrow shape giving her a perpetual look of disappointment. At a height of 9’2 ft she stood almost toe to toe with Osmund, in fact there were many aspects about her that reminded Osmund of himself. The first was her attitude, she treated every war as a tragedy of its own, and yet she would never fail to perform against her enemies. Skilled in most weapons Jumun’s life had been long and arduous, her worn out armour covered in patches and dents. Osmund had offered her a new set of armour once, to which she vehemently refused, telling Osmund that she wished to end the war in the armour she started it in. Currently she held a single large sword nearly identical to his own, and Osmund predicted that she couldn’t wait for the battle to be over.
The group stood facing the smoking walls, watching the now descending Strolomite’s retrieve the three gifts from the gods. Pushing them back up the hill would take tremendous strength and a long time, which is why nearly double the number of Strolomite’s assisted in the endeavour. Osmund cleared his throat, prompting the looks of the team. All of their eyes were of Balmun, who was somehow already panting after a 2 minute drag through the ground. Osmund released the man and pushed him towards his new comrades, to which he sulked.
Osmund could see through the smoke of the ruins now, noting the strangely high number of bodies present from Osmund’s view. It appeared that there were more forces than originally estimated, as it was initially guessed there were around one hundred and fifty soldiers inside. Judging by the number of corpses inside those numbers clearly forgot to account for the possibility of trainees inside of the castle. This may be a slightly larger fight than initially predicted, although even supposing there were another hundred or so trainees locked inside rooms there were things Osmund could do against that.
“Alright then, good to see that some of you actually bothered to wake up today, Balmun, and I think we all know that this mission is going to end the war.” Balmun raised his hand.
“Yes Balmun?”
“Sir I have a very cunning pl-”
“Shove your plans up your slacker buttocks, you idiot. Now then, I’m gonna say this once, because quite frankly the more chances I give Balmun to interrupt the more likely I’ll butcher myself with this sword. Now then we are the backbone to the forces, our mission is to help take individual points of conflict from alternative points. We will accomplish this with the leaked maps of the castle gained from Vaunghe intelligence. Now then, originally it was believed that we were dealing with only around one hundred and fifty troops, but it looks like someone didn’t remember the number of rookie troops that are trained here, so we could be looking at a few more troops than expected.” Osmund saw the hand raised but tried to ignore it. The man with the potato for a head seemed adamant however, and raised his hand higher. When that didn’t work he raised both arms.
“By the gods what is it?”
“Well sir, what kind of weapons do you think they have?” Osmund stopped in his tracks, not expecting anything even related to an actual important question. A smile formed on his face, it seems that even fools can think every now and again.
“Decent question my friend, we can probably expect the basic mix of swords and axes, likely shields also, but we may have one or two archers running around however it’s unlikely any survived the wall’s collapse.”
“That is good Osmund, once we take a few down I need a weapon, I like the swords myself.”
“What’s wrong with your sword?”
“I left it in the tent sir.” Osmund cupped his hands into his face, cringing against the stupidity of this man.
“Listen…. just everyone follow me please, I mean by the gods man. Come on. Listen I don’t think we will need any armour with us today, we have the single thickest piece of meat just over there as we speak.” Osmund points towards Balmun, who turns to see what everyone is looking at. Without another word Osmund begins to walk down the hill towards the castle, muttering things that even the gods consider a little racy.
* * * *
The ruins of Dundis stood firm in their strength, with the ruined walls blemishing what was once a grand fortress that none had penetrated. Tall spires protrude from the shapeless stone complex. Along the gateway was a path leading directly into the Dundis entrance, which stood slightly ajar. Fragments of the wall had crushed many parts of the outside, with simple wooden stables and trees crushed by the weight of the plummet of the debris. The architecture that remained spoke to the complexities of the Vaunghe, as spiralling patterns adorned the walls of the castle, interlaced with rare jewels that coated the walls. The Vaunghe were so fortunate with minerals that one could find them coating their walls, despite the fact that no one other than a fellow Vaunghe was ever meant to see such a thing.
A veil of embarrassment and determination clashed as the group descended the hill, weapons at the ready. The group had reached the ruins of the wall now, debris coating the grass and the bodies that were surely there. Even destroyed Osmund still felt some of that divine power the Vaunghe always babbled about, he felt the strength in the walls and not for the first time wondered why the gods would bestow such a gift upon such a vile group.
The group began clambering through the ruins, over the cracked pieces of stone and through the divine walls final remains. There was a smell here, the remnants of smoke colliding with the smell of blood, but there was a third smell, one that Osmund knew well. It was the smell of inevitability, heavy in the hair. That which is unlikely to happen always will happen, and when it does the smell adds to it all, the smell of fate and destiny runs through this place.
Inevitability hides everywhere, in the trees and the skies, carried by the wind through it all. From nature it was born, but in man it thrives, the building’s will one day fall, the kingdoms will fade away, and everything will one day lead to something else. From every beginning comes an end, and each end becomes a beginning, this is how it has always been. This place thought itself against such things, and inevitability infected its walls, creeping along slowly rotting the once great walls into a hellish nightmare. Now the bubble has burst, and the smell of inevitability crowds the world, taking over everything.
Moaning. A low whimper. A cry for something. Calls for assistance. A terrified yell. Osmund approaches the source of these noises, his team close behind. At the source of these screams is a Vaunghe soldier, somehow alive after the rampart’s collapse, covered in piles of stone and smoke. His outstretched hand reaches towards Osmund, who in turn takes it.
The man mutters something, sputters blood, and begins to fade. As he does, Osmund moves towards the rocks, feeling against it. Somehow the rocks aren’t as heavy as they should be, and Osmund slowly moves the rocks. The first and second rocks move, and after some struggling Osmund moves the third rock, revealing a bloody leg, spurting forward. Osmund realises how the man survived, the remains of a metal box squashed around him. As the rampart fell the man landed inside, narrowly missing an immediate demise. Now he sat, bleeding in and out of consciousness, and moaning for help. Osmund put his hands around the man, slowly lifting him, and moving forwards into the inner walls.
There are running medics here, and as they see Osmund’s approach they run to him, taking the injured man and placing him onto a table. The man may survive, they told Osmund, however his bleeding may take too much from him. As Osmund turns to leave he hears the voice, the message of the man.
“T-t-th-than-” It was shaky, interrupted by coughs and convulsions, but bore strength, and Osmund felt the ghost of a smile play upon him.
“It wasn’t an issue.” And with that Osmund left the tent, admiring the surroundings in focus for the first time. Eyes bore into him from his party, and yet no one said anything, they couldn’t. Many had called Osmund a monster in his time, they had seen him do bad things to bad people, and yet none would call him a monster, for there is no such thing. Osmund is not some black death, he’s another beast entirely.
For the first time Osmund admired his surroundings, the inner walls were now filled with wreckage, and looked back to the tent. It was amazing how quickly the medics could establish tents, the battle had occurred for less than an hour and already there were three tents established side by side. Besides the wounded Vaunghe soldier were three other injured soldiers, each seeming to be hit by a minor injury likely from the smoke inhalation.
The captured and surrendered were lined up against the castle's wall, being carefully monitored by over sixty members of the contingent. There were only around twelve or thirteen of the captured, smoke-covered and sputtering. On the ground were bodies, those rookies that tried so valiantly to protect what they cared for. They now lay, looking up to the sky blindly.
Osmund saw the bodies and felt his stomach turn. The desire came back. The shaking returned, alongside it the painful sharp stabbing thoughts. Everything changed, he forgot who he was. What kind of person would approve of this, what even was Osmund was he real or fake, how is he even conceiving things like this. What is reality and why is it real, why can’t he understand-
Silence. Peace. Osmund returned to himself, the shaking never happening at all. He looked down at the bodies and continued to walk. There was nothing he could do for them, not anymore. The eyes of his group bore into him, shattering something that had broken a long time ago. He raised his hand and motioned for his team to follow, leaving this travesty of death and life behind.
Footsteps. Osmund turned to their echoing sound, the way they bounced through the place was unbelievable, the way it echoed between the walls and the castle structure itself. Through open castle gates he ran, a messenger in green, sword in its scabbard and now approaching Osmund. The man tripped on something, a large rock of some sort, before standing, dusting himself off and reaching the group.
“Osmund, we have hit the enemy’s points of defence.” The man was young, maybe twenty, and no more than twenty five.
“And? Where are they?”
“There are three fronts, the first is in the scout’s tower where a group of Vaunghe are amassing weapons and barricades fast. We can no longer enter the tower, as the amount thrown down makes common entrance impossible. The second location is the garden, where we believe the last of the nobles and the King himself are. We’ve faced harsh opposition from the enemies, who have formed a wall of shields to protect the door. Finally we have the guard’s quarters, where a few amount of Vaunghe are in active combat as we speak, although that will likely be taken without need for intervention.”
“Good job soldier.”
“Thank you sir.”
Osmund removes a slip of paper from his garb, and admires it in the sunlight. It was a complex map of Dundis, including the secret passages and escape routes of the entire place. It cost the annulment of many Vaunghe men and women, but was worth all the effort. Consulting the map Osmund noted the existence of an escape passageway inside of the tower. It was obscured behind a wall, thus explaining the lack of windows on that side.
“Report back to your commander that we’ll begin with the tower, there are several clear passages into an alternative staircase. Launching a pincer attack we’ll defeat the enemy and allow for the redistribution of forces. By that time I expect the guard’s quarters to be taken, allowing us to completely overflow any opposition protecting the garden.”
“Yes Osmund, I will inform her now.” And with that the young warrior ran back through the castle’s long iron gates.
And thus, the final battle was upon them. Osmund looked upon Dundis, the last symbol of the people who had taken everything from him, the ones who had slaughtered so many innocents, so many that Osmund cared for, and now the end was finally in sight. But it didn’t feel like the end, Osmund could feel no conclusion approaching, it felt like something else, as if this was all leading into something more, some grand massacre the likes of which Osmund had never seen. There’s a darkness ahead, something far worse to come than the echoes of a fallen monarchy, and as Osmund stands he can feel it inside of him, gesturing sensually, awaiting his return to the beginning. In a mental prison of nonexistent existence lies the mother, a slight smile on her lips. She awaits the grasp of Osmund forevermore.

2023.03.29 09:07 No-Adhesiveness9235 I am 27 F in a situationship with a 33 M

So I’ve been absolutely inlove with this guy since I was 16/17 it’s nearly a decade later. And he’s 6 years older than me (we’ll call him OG)
Off the bat we used to talk all the time, super close, we’d hang out, go hunting, to breakfast and spend all day and night talking to each other. Since I was younger my dad found out, we had went to a football game together and I went over to OGs house and my dad was pissed. He threatened to beat his ass and I was grounded and it was kinda dumb, but I understand looking back since I was only 17 going on 18 when we actually started hanging out alone.
When I went to college we still talked, and he persistently snap chatted me, flirted, and would send me mildly inappropriate snaps (not full nudes) I finally got up the courage one night to text him and ask “what is this? I like you, we’ve been inseparable for like 3 years now” I got back a reply that he was not interested in anything and that we were basically just really good friends (still got weird vibes but began to accept it was never going to be more, I slowly started to distance myself and move on)
2-3 years later (he had came up to see me at school two or three times but nothing ever happened)
I moved home to the same town he lived in after college and again OG started talking to me constantly, I went over to his house a few times, and one night he sent me a text telling me “you can come over and smd and we can mess around if you want” I was annoyed and frustrated so I just ignored him as I didn’t want to be some fling since he was kind of a manwhore.
I shortly started casually dating, he of course found out (our families are friends and his older brother is my dads bestfriend) he would constantly pick on me and tell me not to be hoeing around and that I was a floozy and I shouldn’t be dating.
I tried to ignore him but we have such a past and with the family dynamic I feel like an ass to not talk to him (and I obviously was still inlove with him) so I would just call him on his shit and tell him to fuck off I was an adult and we weren’t together.
OG would come over and hang out, we’d go out to eat, and I started talking him lunch to work and we’d talk all the time— but I was casually dating a few guys.
I started to get serious with a guy that had kids, and OG found out and started making comments about me dating a guy with kids and shouldn’t I find someone who didn’t have kids and so on. Around this time I told OG once again that I still had feelings for him, and I got nearly the same response as the first time. But I was also super confused, because dude why are you so far up my ass but you claim you don’t like me.
So later that year I started dating the guy that I am still with to this day. OG immediately started to pick on that relationship, and would say things like “you’re never around anymore, how’s the Indiana kid” and just being condescending but trying to joke. He eventually started calling me Indiana because I spent time at his apartment out of state.
During the time I started dating my current boyfriend, I completely stopped talking to OG, bound and determined that it wasn’t going anywhere and I needed to move on.
He got a job transfer and met a girl that he is currently still dating. Fast forward like 2-3 years and at his brothers wedding he made his girlfriend stand up and like proclaimed his love for her and said she was the love of his life 🙄 when the speeches were finished he didn’t go see his girlfriend he came to my table, knelt down and put his hand on my leg— super awkward but I honestly don’t like his girlfriend and I wasn’t going to start anything at his brothers wedding.
The morning after the wedding his girlfriend was out of town to see her kid, and when I got to the venue to help clean up he immediately came and hugged me. After the wedding he would talk to me on and off— but seldomly.
About a year and a half ago my boyfriend got a job across the country, and I was planning to move once my lease was up. Two nights before I left I had plans to go to dinner with his brother and his brothers wife who I am very close with, he of course tagged along (his girlfriend was out of town) we went to dinner and he bought my food and drinks we had a great time, I tagged all of them in an instagram that night after dinner and he untagged himself the next day.
The next day I came back over to his brother and sister in law’s house, he showed up and brought his dog, I sat outside with him and his dog and we talked and then he gave me a hug and told me he’d miss me. I went inside and was talking to his sister-in-law and I was nearly in tears and told her “I need someone to tell me if I am making a mistake, I love OG so much, and if leaving is going to jeopardize that I can’t go”
She told me “we all know you’ve loved him since the day you met, and I don’t know what his deal is, but I know he cares about you, but since he won’t open up and talk about it, you need to forget him and do what’s best for you in this situation.” So the next day I left and moved across the country.
From then on over the next year and a half everytime I would fly home he was always around. He would show up to dinner, or at their house, he would always be right by me, always hug me goodbye and always text me for a few days following us seeing each other.

2023.03.29 09:03 SylentStryke Ai Mesh 160mhz question

I recently moved into a bigger house and setup 2 Asus xt9 mesh nodes with my Asus Ax11000 being my main router. The two nodes are plugged in to ethernet but I see that Asus Ai Mesh configured my second 5ghz band to be a dedicated back haul. I originally had this second 5ghz band to be for 160mhz traffic for my devices that supported it. I'm wondering what configuration I should be using here seeing as I can't use my 160mhz on my primary 5ghz band as it won't let some devices connect. Is this setup solid or am I missing out on some performance here?

2023.03.29 09:01 itsupikiokami86 Risk it for career or not

I (f36)have changed my life a few times now, I went from nothing and studied for 5 years to get into the profession I wanted. From there I've worked my way up and then got placed onto a masters course through work which opens doors into my desired role. I have been seconded to uni and now I have reached a dilemma. My old role is being held open for me, its a fairly new department, and whilst I enjoyed it for the time I was there for I found it very stressful and I did not utilise all the skills I acquired. Attending uni and undertaking the role I am doing now has opened my eyes to how stressed I was. I now look forward to work. I did enjoy some aspects of my old role, it worked well with my work-life balance and I'm well respected there. I went to visit for a meeting yesterday and it was lovely having colleagues stopping to say hello and saying how much they missed me. I enjoy living near family and the local gym which I've made some lovely friends through. I've established a good network where I am now. However, going back to my old role means I'm unlikely to experience the career advancement I want. I will have opportunities but not in the same way, due to the area being rural, people who are in the positions I want are likely to be there for many years to come. So I would have to accept that I would stay in my previous role. However, I've had a job opportunity that would mean taking a huge risk to work in the area I want. It would mean entering as a leader into a new team and a new area I know nothing about. I am doing some research but you can't really know the real ins and outs until you're there. It would mean uprooting and relocating to an area where I know no one, I wouldn't have the support system I have here and being quite introverted I'm not one to join a load of clubs and classes. I would attend the gym over there but it's a large chain franchise rather than a smaller local gym. I'm going over and over it in my head. If I take the new job it means definite career advancement, it sounds like I'd have support to adjust to my new role and to get used to the area. But I guess the fear of the unknown is worrying me. I do love being near to the countryside. I'd be moving to a small city. I have lived in Manchester before for 10 years before settling back down in my home town. I really don't know what to think or do anymore. I keep trying to weigh up the pros and cons but something keeps making me fearful or worried about taking the plunge and moving. Maybe it's the feeling of safety here and having that network of family and friends around me. I have no children and I don't have a partner. I live alone independently now so it's family and friends who are close by that I spend a lot of my free time with. I feel I'd be walking away from that and then sitting in a house in a city I don't know totally alone and lonely. For the job I really want. There isn't a change in salary for the job initially but as I've said, it does offer a better opportunity for career advancement in the future which I am keen on. I do feel If I choose to stay where I am now I will be saying goodbye to my career and I'd need to find some happiness in what I'm doing now. There would be other openings in other locations in the future but there are always a large number of people going for the role. I did extremely well to get offered the position, especially when I am not currently part of that team. Thank you in advance I know its a lot to read.

2023.03.29 08:58 Somethingnumberdude Son doesn’t want to be home

Today we reached a tipping point at my house. I sent my son to his mom’s for a month because my son doesn’t want to be at my house. He says he misses his mom when he’s at my house and doesn’t want to live with us.
Some background: My son is shared custody 50/50 with my ex. We both have new spouses and children in our respective houses. My son is 7.
The last several months my son has been telling me he misses his mom and wants to go to her house early each week. We’ve been dealing him having a bad attitude, wanting to watch a lot of screen time, and losing interest in some of his activities. He’s been very disrespectful to his step mom (my current wife).
This has been very challenging because my sons mom has the zero rules house. He has unlimited screen time, does not have chores, and gets to play video games over practicing his reading. His mom has let him stay home from school for weeks at a time and he has missed a whopping 45 days of school this year and that was at the end of January. She constantly speaks badly about me to our son and complains about me. I’m not perfect but a lot of why she tells him is borderline fantasy.
I’m beside myself and absolutely heartbroken that it’s come to this because he doesn’t want to spend time with me. Not to mention that his mom walked out on us when he was 3 but he doesn’t remember this and it feels like I’m going through my separation and divorce all over again.
I hit a wall today and arranged for him to spend a month with his mom. I just need a break from him and it seems he wants a break from me. I also selfishly wanted him to see how his mom is when she gets bored of him. Which happens from time to time.
Am I a terrible father for doing this?
Any other dads out there that have been in this situation?
Am I the only one dealing with a dead beat mom?

2023.03.29 08:48 sarcastic_aly My mom died nearly a year ago and I feel guilty for still grieving

My(f29) mom passed away suddenly in the middle of last year and it hit me hard. I moved away from home 5 years ago and now live an 18 hour flight away. The last time I saw her was before the pandemic when i managed to visit for a week.
It happened completely out of the blue. One day she was telling me she didn't feel too well, she maybe had a cold, the next she was heading into hospital for treatment because she was having difficulty breathing. It took 2 days to go from nothing to me getting a call from my cousin in tears telling me she was gone. No one was even that worried, we all thought she'd be fine. The doctors said she'd be fine but she just suddenly crashed in the night.
I've never been the beat with dealing with trauma. I have a traumatic past and have gone through some things that I've been to therapy for and I know I've developed some unhealthy coping mechanisms. One of which is just shutting down and getting on with things. Sounds fine? It's not. It means I don't deal with things. And it's not a decision I make, it just happens and then one day suddenly I realise wait, I'm not fine, I'm in fact very not fine.
It really sucks because I can go on for months thinking I'm ok and not suffering and then one day everything just hits me all at once.
Well that's what happened here. When I heard the news I cried harder than I ever have in my life. I live with my boyfriend and he was home when I got the news. He was worried because he'd never heard me cry like that before. After the initial tears I sort of went into survival mode and just started preparing for my trip home to get everything arranged. I told myself I could grieve when I get there but until then I needed to push through.
We booked the first possible flight and we're on our way. While I was there it was a lot of getting things done, speaking to family, passing in the news to her few friends and having to sit there as they all cried at me about the sudden news and how they'd miss her.
Now, I didn't really leave my mom in the best position. My family has never been a very stable one and after I left it feels like things fell apart even more. My dad divorced my mom and it was messy. He ended up getting married to someone he worked with and that hit hard. My mom hadn't worked since before she had my older brother so she didn't have much if anything to fall back on.
She was always struggling for money and would ask me every now and then for money for bills. I hate how I responded, I was cruel. I had the money, but I told myself not to get tricked into funding her for the rest of my life. Looking back I wish I'd spent every paycheck making her life better.
I have a lot of regrets about how I treated her. She was by no means a Saint but she loved me and took care of me. She developed paranoid schizophrenia when I was in college and caused me so much stress I ended up dropping out because I couldn't deal with it. She then kept on bringing up how I gave up and I disappointed her and my father so much. I hated it, but I never once blamed her to her face. I knew if I did she'd just say I was making excuses. But it wasn't her fault. She was sick and eventually she got help and the medication she needed. She became herself again. I'm glad I managed to get her that help at least, that she didn't have to go to the end feeling so scared.
But that's just how it's been for the past year. I keep thinking about how much I miss her, then remember the times she was cruel or spiteful, then feeling guilty because despite everything she was my mom.
This turmoil has led me to be damned near useless in everyday life. I go through the motions. I get up, go to work, get home and eat my dinner then just go to bed. All the while pretending I'm ok. And usually it's fine. But I feel empty, aimless. I've stopped doing my share of the chores all together. My boyfriend, bless him, has been nothing but supportive. He's the only person who really sees my pain and the main reason I'm making this post. I feel so guilty that I've put so much on him. I've tried doing everything I can to actually grieve. To force myself to face the pain. Even this post is one such attempt. If I talk through it maybe I can actually start healing. Because as it stands as soon as no one is around or as soon as I need to try to sleep it pushes through and I'm a mess.
I cry almost as hard as that first day. I cry so much my chest hurts and my throat feels raw. Sometimes I force myself to cry quietly so that my boyfriend can sleep.
It doesn't help that when I do actually fall asleep I have incredibly vivid dreams (a reaction to some of my medication) that have been about nothing but my mom, and going home and regrets.
I want to get back to doing my share of the work. I want to get back to feeling like myself. I know I'm depressed. I was depressed before this happened, for completely different reasons. I'm already on medication for it and already in therapy. I don't know what else to do. I'm so tired of feeling sad and empty.
By all accounts my life is going well. I have a job and a house and a living supportive boyfriend. I can put a smile on my face and go through my days without issue. But inside its just pain and I feel so guilty for not enjoying the life that I have. Especially when most of my guilt comes from not giving my mom a better one.

It’s currently past 1 a.m. and ive been woken up yet again to this fuckin shit. We’ve brought it up as a “family” idk 5-6 times and every single time hes a scared puppy “oh sorry i PROMISE ill be better next time”. Same excuse he gave us for giving up the booze for the past 2 decades of my life. What a fuckin loser. I just want to storm into the living room, slap the fuck outta him, and scream “ASSHOLE, GO To BED!”.
The most wild Shit is that hes been retired so he doesnt fucking do anything all day. What, he doesnt get his fuckin fill when hes binging the shit during the day?! he needs it like a fuckin drug at night too?! What a fuckin nightmare. Textbook narcissist. He doesnt give a flying fuck about anyone but himself. Im at my witts end. Wtf is my life, getting woken up to that whiny little fuck pundit make-believe pontificating and saying “what is going on?! Whats it happening?! The liberal woke mind virus wants you to think the green m&m shouldnt get your dick hard. What i happening!?”. How empty headed do you have to be man. What kind of unhinged person buys that shit? God motha fuckin damn im fuming. Fuckin fat alcoholic fuck bullshit ass excuse for a father. He’s gonna have another fucking heart attack by doing this shit. I wish he wasn’t such a coward and would put a bullet in his head and be done with it. Fml

2023.03.29 08:35 fullofwrackspurts I [32F] am so hurt by my partner [38M] of three years. I need to leave but my heart has other thoughts.

Backstory: I’m a single mom of two boys (7&9). I met my partner about years ago on my first and only ever Tinder date. I was a SAHM prior to getting divorced (2020) and started working at a daycare during. I don’t have a lot of money and never have. My ex-husband was in the military so I got used to scrimping by.
This brings in my partner. He’s a criminal defense attorney and possibly the best in our area. He knows it and often goes on elitist rants when he feels “disrespected” by other attorneys or clients. I just sit and listen because he is very quick to turn any discussion into an argument.
He really is a sweet guy. He has provided for me and my boys in ways I never thought possible. The kids love him to bits and call him their stepdad though we have no plans on getting married. He’s funny and extremely smart. But most of all, I love him.
Which brings us to tonight.
We’ve always had a bit of an issue with trust in our relationship. I’ve caught him texting other women very explicitly but I let him explain it away. My ex did the same so I normalized it. Last July, my partner got a new assistant. She’s fantastic and younger than us (27F) and also married. He’s had other assistants before so I saw no cause for concern. Needless to say, that was dumb of me. They’ve gotten much closer and have began to say “I love you” to one another. I only know this because I accidentally saw her message to him when we were watching TikToks.
Now, I had warned him about her falling for him because I had that gut instinct right off the bat. He swore it would never happen and reassured me. She is constantly texting him and he feels the need to answer because “she is the best assistant in the area and she needs to feel connected to me so she does a better job”. He justifies by claiming “I bring home the money so whatever I need to do shouldn’t be questioned”.
He has bought me a lot. A house, a car, helping me through college, etc. So part of me feels like he’s right. I’m benefiting so I should stay quiet. However, the other side of me is begging him for love and he doesn’t care. Tonight it came to a head. I had written him a letter explaining all of my hurt and frustration at feeling like the other woman between them. He read it and didn’t bat an eye. He told me I need to accept their relationship because of what I gain. I let him know I could care less about physical objects and material things, all I want is his friendship and love. He told me no, that I get enough.
I lost it. I started almost yelling because I felt so unheard. He just wasn’t getting it, I don’t want money. I want him. He told me that if I made him pick between me or his job and her, he’d pick them. I asked him to please leave and he did.
I regret it now. I miss him and want him back home. Am I insane?
TLDR: partner has a relationship with his assistant and expects me to accept it because he pays for everything. I just want him and his love.

2023.03.29 08:25 Arusedcu 21 [M4FA] LF Constant or manga club/discord server

Thought I'd try my luck here. Looking for a constant or maybe a discord server with similar interests. I often feel lonely and don't have that many friends irl that I can discuss about my interests with; I miss nerding out about stuff I've watched, read, or listened with friends. I'm very shy and introverted so pls excuse me if I struggle to join the convo. But I should get out of my comfort zone, gets talkative when comfy naman. I'm not used to calls but I'll try my best.
If we don't vibe, that's fine, just let me know instead of ghosting and I'll do the same too- nobody likes getting ghosted.
Ab me: - 21M - 5'5, Normal BMI, Chinito with glasses - INFP - College Student - QC - Books (usually fantasy) - Manga/Manhwa (can drop my Anilist) - Anime - Kdramas (can drop my MyDramaList) - Valorant (I am trash, no jk) - Genshin - Minecraft - Music Taste: Random af but mostly JP or KR songs (kpop too but casual only) - Enjoys dark humor - I'm pretty emotional, likes crying to dramas but I can control it - I can be an ear for your rants but I'll try to avoid providing solutions because life isn't that easy
Ab you or discord server: - Near my age - Preferrably similar interests - Preferrably within QC or Metro Manila, I'd eventually want to go out since I just wanna get out of the house and maybe go to events, do activities, or simply just chill - Not a kidnapper who will sell my organs, I'll choose when to sell mine thank you

2023.03.29 08:15 WorriedWoodpecker238 I don't remember my mom, yet somehow I miss her.

My mom died when I was 2, so I have no recollection of her. I was left in the care of my grandmother and my mom's brother. They were both heavily addicted to drugs and hoarders. The house was almost uninhabitable, with endless junk and at least 20 cats contributing to the filth. For as far back as I can remember, I was severely abused and neglected. Four times, child protective services were involved, but they closed the case each time. I was 14 when I attempted to take my life and left there for good after telling someone.
I am now 22 and it's a constant battle with the trauma. I've begun to really struggle with the pain of never having that parental love and affection. I was given small details and stories about my birth mother throughout my childhood. I was only 10 when my mom was murdered, and my grandmother refused to talk further about her and withheld any pictures or personal items. I was finally given a picture of her during a supervised visit shortly after my attempt. The only other things I've been able to find are a vague obituary and 2 high school yearbook photos.
I look at her photo often and am deeply confused by my feelings. My mother, this stranger that carried me and gave birth to me, My name, listed as her daughter on the obituary, is the only evidence of she and I together. There are no pictures or videos of her holding me or looking at me affectionately. I can't remember a single detail like her voice, her smell, or her touch. I often find myself picturing these things and wondering how she felt about me.
It leaves me confused and hurts more than anything to miss her. There's nothing to miss about her, so it must be that I miss the idea of her. I wonder what could've been had she been there. I imagine a clean home where there was love and kind words. I imagine being comforted and admired by her. I imagine hugging her and how it would feel to be held by my mother. but I also know that it could've been completely different than I imagine.
I long for her almost every day. When I'm sick, I want her comfort. When I do good things, I want to show her. When the holidays come around, I want to be with her. When i'm struggling mentally, I want to call her.....all of these things that can't be replicated. I get so jealous seeing how close my best friend and her mom are. She's 23 and tells her mom everything, calls her at the grocery store to ask what spaghetti sauce to get, orders for her at restaurants....... And people say, "Well, one day you'll have your own family and be a mother." ... and i'll be there, and i'll love my children, but deep down, I'm still just a child who wants her mom too.
It's so hard to cope with this because there is no solution. I'm stuck with nothing but what-ifs and a longing that’ll never be satisfied.

2023.03.29 08:14 Actually_Vyror 27 [M4F] Wait! Stop! Can you smile?

See how cute you are when you smile? You just lit up the whole room! .^
Hiya! The names Aaron. 27M from USA KY. I'm happy with sharing pictures later on, but I'm 5'10, white, short dark hair, chubby, and wear glasses.
I'm really hoping to find someone who, in a sense, makes me feel complete. A missing puzzle piece to a perfect, beautiful picture. I live a stable life, I have a good job, pay my bills on time, got a house and car, in just missing someone to share it all with.
Some of my hobbies are:
-Video Games: this is where I spend most of my days. Currently I'm jumping around, but some of my favorite games are WoW, FFXIV, Phasmophobia, Apex Legends, Persona, Pokemon, Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Conan Exiles.
-Reading: I love to read. Fantasy is by far my favorite, but I can also enjoy a good sci-fi or romance. I'm also quite fond of manga and webtoons. I'm always buying new books to sit on my shelf. It's like my dragon hoard.
-Anime: I do watch some anime, but not nearly as much as I use too. A few of my favorites though are Grimgar no Ash, Steins Gate, Monster, and Code Geass.
Writing/DnD: I combined these because I love to write, and I often use my stories as campaigns in DnD. Forever DM here. Always looking for people to share my ideas with!
Sooo with that, I hope something here catches your eye. I mostly use discord for messaging:). I thank you for reading this far! I'll keep the food warm!

2023.03.29 08:12 extraaccoutn How likely am I to get sick?

My brother and sister were v*ing yesterday (Monday). My mom and dad are not sick (yet). I only saw my siblings each once on Sunday, but it was only a brief encounter with no touching. I have not seen them since before they got sick (except for today when I was out of my room to get paper towels, I saw my sister but I ran away).
I have been washing my hands when I can, but I have only left my room into the house 6 times in the past 2 days. I pee outside, wear an N-95 mask and wash my hands 3x when I have to go poo, I have food and water in my room, and I have a door to outside from my room that I leave the house from my personal car to feed my horse.
I was with my dogs yesterday (Monday) and I worry they could have had the virus on them, and then maybe I touched my lips then licked them. I do not touch my food. I do not put my hands in my mouth. I have been using Lysol wipes but they aren't bleach so I feel extremely contaminated. Tomorrow I am going to buy bleach and bleach everything in my room. I have not consumed any food that they would have touched or been near. The vent in my room is connected to my sister's on the other side of the house. I know because I smell her candles when she lights them. I closed it as much as I could, but air still comes through.
I only spoke to my mom once on Monday from a distance. Nobody is allowed in my room. No dogs, only my cat who isn't allowed in the house, and no people. They are not allowed to even open my door.
My plan is to quarantine like this for 2 weeks. I may try to see my dogs because they will be lonely and I miss them so much, but I am so scared. How likely is it for me to get sick? What else can I do?

2023.03.29 08:06 CesarB2760 Possible simple Samurott strat?

So for the last several raids the community has tried to settle on a relatively simple strat, one that doesn't require too much coordination from our random online allies. Obviously we don't yet know what tricks Samurott will have, but I came up with something that I think will work barring something crazy. For those who don't want to read further, the gist is that one person brings a Koraidon that knows Helping Hand, and the other 3 bring Iron Moths that know Acid Spray and Overheat. There is a backup plan (in case Samurott has a Ground type move) where the other 3 use Armarouge. Koraidon uses Attack Cheer turn 1, then Helping Hands whichever Iron Moth is healthiest. The Moths use Acid Spray turn 1, then only use Overheat if Koraidon used Helping Hand on them.
I know that these pokemon choices seem odd, but I'll explain. I wanted pokemon that could threaten a OHKO without needing to buff themselves, only debuff the enemy. I also wanted a relatively small number of different pokemon involved, where everyone's job would be pretty self-explanatory. Since Sun provides a huge boost to Fire moves, I started there. Overheat, Flare Blitz, and Pyro Ball stood out as strong moves. Among the pokemon with access to 1 of those moves, Iron Moth, Armarouge, Miraidon, and Koraidon were the only ones that also learned the appropriate debuffs.
Koraidon looked promising, but even with Samurott at -6 def it JUST BARELY misses the OHKO. It looks like a great option to solo, but a full group of them may end up waffling between Screech and Swords Dance and accidentally trigger the shield. So if we're aiming for a OHKO with strangers, Koraidon will have to settle for bringing the Sun and Helping Hand support. Miraidon also doesn't quite have the juice, though there would be a good argument for bringing it instead of 1 Iron Moth to provide Electric Terrain.
Iron Moth and Armarouge, obviously, suffer from their weakness to Water. However, Sun reduces the damage by enough that both comfortably survive any 2 non-crit Water moves that might come their way. They both also outspeed Samurott and we get the KO on turn 2 so they shouldn't even need to survive a 2nd attack unless Samurott throws one out in the pre-fight. Iron Moth is pretty clearly superior as it has notably higher SpA and 4x resists Bug. It is less physically bulky, but it hits so hard that you can actually invest more in defenses and still hit the KO. The only reason to consider Armarouge is that Iron Moth takes a TON from Ground moves, where Armarouge can take 2 of anything Samurott knows.
Now, there are still things that would turn this sideways. Samurott resetting its stats turn 2 would be bad but manageable with a change to turn 1; Armarouge could Calm Mind or set up screens, Iron Moth could Light Screen or Electric Terrain (for Quark Drive), and Koraidon could Defense Cheer. This is riskiest for Armarouge, which takes big chunks from Megahorn regardless. The scariest thing for me though would be Rain Dance. Any of these pokes could easily run Sunny Day but the fight becomes less and less predictable if a weather war breaks out and most of the team is 1 rain-boosted Hydro Pump away from death. Speaking of making the fight unpredictable, Samurott has access to both Taunt and Encore, but honestly if it does that I'm probably only running it with friends.
Now for some damage calcs so everyone can see that we get the KO and aren't KOd ourselves. Our Iron Moth is actually oriented heavily toward bulk, as a paltry 48 SpA EVs are enough to guarantee the OHKO.
48+ SpA Life Orb Iron Moth Helping Hand Atk cheer Overheat vs. -6 0 HP / 0 SpD Tera Bug Samurott in Sun: 9982-11745 (100.5 - 118.2% of 30x hp boss) -- guaranteed OHKO0 Atk Tera Bug Samurott Aqua Tail vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Iron Moth in Sun: 102-122 (33.8 - 40.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO0 SpA Tera Bug Samurott Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 216 SpD Iron Moth in Sun: 96-114 (31.8 - 37.8%) -- 85.6% chance to 3HKO
Armarouge needs a good bit more SpA investment and takes much bigger chunks from almost any move that isn't Drill Run, but it still survives as long as we actually need.
164+ SpA Life Orb Armarouge Helping Hand Atk cheer Overheat vs. -6 0 HP / 0 SpD Tera Bug Samurott in Sun: 9954-11714 (100.2 - 117.9% of 30x hp boss) -- guaranteed OHKO0 SpA Tera Bug Samurott Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Armarouge in Sun: 114-134 (36.6 - 43%) -- guaranteed 3HKO0 Atk Tera Bug Samurott Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 96 Def Armarouge: 118-139 (37.9 - 44.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO0 Atk Tera Bug Samurott Aqua Tail vs. 0 HP / 96 Def Armarouge in Sun: 86-104 (27.6 - 33.4%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO
So there we have it. A pretty simple yet effective strategy that strangers could pull off without coordination. They might even have the power to punch through the shield if an Iron Moth gets antsy and attacks without the Cheer or Helping Hand, depending on exactly what surprises Samurott has in store. So what do we think, does it have potential?

What YouTube podcast do you recommend I should listen to? I usually listen to miss mango Bam Bam. Or mustery, coffee house crime or make up mystery contents.

2023.03.29 08:03 Wrenevieve running out of bandaids

hiya, I started cutting somewhat recently and I'm getting really close to running out of the bandaids I have in my room, and I'm not sure what to do. I can't get them from anywhere else in the house because someone will probably notice that they're missing. Plus i have a really hard time going out and buying stuff without friends or family there due to anxiety, both of which would undoubtedly question me if they saw me buying bandaids because they know I used to self harm (burning) last year. That might be too much info, but I'm basically just wondering what I should do? is there an excuse I could make, or an alternative I could find, or something like that? I really don't want to get an infection from keeping them uncovered lol. tysm :)

2023.03.29 08:00 RegretfulMist God

God I fucking miss you. I would do anything to hold you again, to feel your hands on the back of my head, to hear the slight amusement in your voice as you questioned me. I would do anything to watch you play with my cat again, to hear your laughter, to comfort you while you cried. I would do anything to spend one more period with you, skipping class to attend mine, sacrificing your grades just for the chance to spend another hour with me. I would do anything to have another afternoon at the park, or cooking Chinese food, or walking into your house and feeling more at home than I do in my own bed.
I would do anything to feel your loving warmth again.
Please, God please, be there for me when I am ready to return. Please, God, let us go back to being siblings. Let us go back to being happy. Because I— and I say this with every fiber in my being, without the slightest hint of exaggeration or irony, in the most literal sense of the word— for the life of me, cannot do this without her.
